Renowned American rapper and investor Jay-Z could share ownership in one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

The music artist, who is also known for his empire of investment interests cutting across sports and other ventures, has been recently linked to taking over Merseyside club, Everton.

According to The Sun, Jay-Z’s American compatriot, John Textor, is working tirelessly around the clock to take over Everton after the club’s owner, Farhad Moshiri, indicated interest in selling out his shares.

Textor is reportedly hoping to partner with other investors to shell out the fund and complete the takeover of the Merseyside outfit. He has contacted several investors, with Jay-Z among the names mentioned.

John Textor Everton takeover conundrum

According to reports, Jay Z is set to accept Textor’s partnership offer in the Everton takeover project. However, the business mogul and musician wants assurances of a smooth business partnership.

This followed reports that while Textor is advancing on becoming the new owner of Everton, a Premier League clause, barring ownership of two clubs could mar the move.

On Tuesday, September 10, 2025, sources close to the 58-year-old investor revealed he has made immense progress in buying out Moshiri’s share at Everton but could suffer prodigious setbacks due to the Premier League clause.

For context purposes, Textor reportedly owns 45% of another Premier League club, Crystal Palace. By Premier League rules, he can only purchase majority shares at Everton if he sells out his shares at Crystal Palace.

Jay-Z open to buying Everton Football Club

Jay Z is reportedly open to the idea of joining forces with Textor to own shares at Everton. The music icon has been a big fan of the Premier League and has envisaged extending his investment into the English top flight in the slightest of opportunity.

Back in 2010, the 54-year-old revealed he is a die-hard Arsenal supporter and has been following the club due to the influence of Thierry Henry.

According to him, he vouched for the club because Thierry Henry was an amazing player and he enjoyed watching him play.

“When Thierry Henry was at the club I saw him play and I just thought he was an amazing player,” Jay-Z said back in 2010.

“Ever since then I have been a big fan of the club, following you guys, and still today you play the beautiful football that Thierry did. I think he had a real long term-effect on the team.”

He also added he is a businessman and would relish the opportunity to invest in the Premier League

“I am a businessman, and I will always look at an opportunity, and if it feels right, great,” he added.

“I don’t know a lot about the business of soccer, but in the future if the right opportunity presented itself, then who knows?”

That time may have just arrived, with American billionaire John Textor keen to bring the rapper on board in his takeover attempt of Everton.

Jay-Z is the owner of Roc Nation Sports

Jay-Z founded Roc Nation Sports in 2013, extending his tentacles of investment into the sports industry. The firm is a sports management agency that manages athletes across football, basketball, American football, and other sports.

Some notable footballers forming the list of Roc Nation Sports’ clientele include Eric Bailly of Villarreal, Reece James of Chelsea, Lauren James of Chelsea Women, Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City, Vinicius Jr of Real Madrid, and many others. Jay-Z net worth

Jay Z can stake a genuine claim to being a hugely successful businessman apart from his music career. He has reportedly amassed an estimated fortune of around £2bn thanks to his music career, sponsorship deals and investments.

Everton’s Premier League woes this season

Jay-Z’s potential investment in Everton may likely help the club break even from their dwindling fortunes this season.

The Sean Dyche-led team have lost all four games this season including another crushing 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday, September 14, 2024. They are bottom of the table with 0 points.
