Bayern Munich defender, Alphonso Davies has professed his love for being at the backline of the team, despite the fact, the Bavarian is known for his terrific pace at the left flank of the pitch.
The Canadian was bought from Major League Soccer in the United States to the Allianz Arena. He was an integral part of the party that won the treble in the 2019/20 campaign. He has continued his beautiful displays in his 18 Bundesliga appearances for the German outfit.
“I assure you, I also enjoy defending
I play where the coach needs me. And if he needs me in the back, at some point I would also accept the captain’s armband as a defender.” the 20 year old left back said.
“You also set your top speed record when you were challenged defensively.
That speaks volumes. I assure you,I also enjoy defending.” he added.
Davies, being one of the rising stars in Germany with the likes of Kingsley Koeman, Benjamin Pavard among others– has revealed his future with David Alaba leave the club- He is learning how to speak German.
In an exclusive interview with TZ, he narrated his experiences at the time when the ravaging pandemic shook the world.
“To be honest, I sit at home a lot, don’t do much, mainly prepare my body and mind for the next workout. It has nothing open, at most I go out for a short walk. And I have a new passion. I started playing the piano” he narrated
“I started playing the piano. Hopefully, I’ll get better there too quickly. Of course I also think about the last few games, the last year, everything that happened. That was a lot. But definitely not too much! I won’t brood if that’s what you mean. Nothing has changed in my way of thinking, I am clear and know: I want to win games – and even more titles. That was fun.”
Four Bayern players made it to FIFA World eleven-Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, and Robert Lewandoski with Alphonso Davies. When asked the things missing his game to make it to the world eleven in 2021, he said improvement is the only way of getting the feat, he vowed that nothing will stop him from making it to the global team.
“I just have to go on, show the hunger every day that took us to five titles as a team last year. In the game that means: fight for every ball! And in everyday training: get even better!” he said
“Nothing should stop me on my way to the 2021 FIFA World Cup. If you’ve been there, you want to do it again”
Bayern is heading for the FIFA World Club Cup, facing Al Ahly of Egypt on Monday. The German side’s quest to win a sextet by clinching their first title in Morocco. Alphonso Davies aired his opinion on that.
“Of course,we want every title we can get. Winning the Club World Cup would complete our incredible 2020. This year it could be “only” five more titles because we unfortunately played a bad game in the cup.” he said
Davies also said he will miss the ‘tips communication, and command’ of David Alaba by the time he leaves Allianz Arena.
“He gives me so many tips and commands that I will definitely miss. I keep getting information from him that makes me stand on tiptoe. With his voice in my head, I never lose focus. I learned a lot from him. I see him as a kind of mentor.” he said
Alphonso Davies was not paraded against Hertha yesterday,1-0 it went in the tie away from home. Koeman’s first-half goal had ensured that Hansi Flick’s men stay at the top of the German league table.
