The shortlist for Golden Boy Award 2020 is out and some of the brightest youngsters across Europe are competing for the soccer award.
The list comprises of footballers between the ages of 17 and 20 who are making waves across the top leagues in the world. They are mostly players who have the potentials to be as big as Lionel Messi who won the award in 2011.
The nomination of the 20 players who have been shortlisted for this year’s edition of the annual award, is based on the performance of the players during the 2019-2020 season.
Below are the 20 players shortlisted for Golden Boy Award 2020:
The following list is arranged in no particular order:
- Bukayo Saka

Bukayo Saka was a shining light in Arsenal’s team during the 2019-2020 season. He made 38 appearances in which he scored 4 goals and provided 11 assists for Arsenal.
- Callum Hudson-Odoi



Callum Hudson-Odoi is gradually becoming the most important player at Chelsea. The England international scored 3 goals and provided 6 assists for Chelsea last season.
- Mitchel Bakker



Mitchel Bakker is Paris Saint Germain‘s teenage defender. Throughout the 2019-2020 season, the Dutch left-back made only 5 appearances with PSG senior team.
- Ryan Gravenberch



Ryan Gravenberch is an 18-year-old midfielder who plays for Ajax’s B team in the 2019-2020 season. Before the season ended, he made 12 appearances with Ajax senior team, scoring three goals and provided one assist.
- Fabio Silva



Fabio Silva made 24 appearances for Porto throughout the 2019-2020 season. In those matches, he scored 3 goals and provided two assists for Porto. He has moved to the Premier League side Wolves for £35.6 million.
- Sergino Dest



Sergino Dest made 36 appearances for Ajax; he scored 2 goals and provided 6 assists throughout the 2019-2020 season.
- Sandro Tonali



Sandro Tonali is a defensive midfielder who plays for AC Milan. Throughout the 2019-2020 season, the teenage star scored a goal and provided 7 assists in 36 appearances.
- Rodrygo



Rodrygo played 26 times for Real Madrid in the 2019-2020 season. He managed to score 7 goals and provided 3 assists.
- Dominik Szoboszlai



Dominik Szoboszlai is a 19-year-old Hungarian attacking midfielder who plays for RB Salzburg. During the 2019-2020 season, he made 40 appearances, scoring 12 goals and provided 18 assists.
- Dejan Kulusevski



Dejan Kulusevski is a Swedish winger who made 39 appearances for Pama, scoring 10 goals and provided 9 assists in the 2019-2020 season. His performance prompted Juventus to sign him for £29.7 million.
- Ferran Torres



Ferran Torres played 44 times for Valencia during the 2019-2020 season. He scored 6 goals and provided 8 assists before he was snapped away by Manchester City for £20.8 million.
- Eduardo Camavinga



Eduardo Camavinga is a 17-year-old French midfielder who plays for Rennes. During the 2019-2020 season, the teenage star played 36 times, scoring a goal and provided 2 assists.
- Ansu Fati – Barcelona



Ansu Fati is a 17-year-old football sensation playing for FC Barcelona. Last season, the Spain international scored 8 goals and provided 1 assist in 33 appearances.
- Vinicius Junior



Vinicius Junior is another sensational playing in Spanish La Liga. The Brazilian played 38 times for Real Madrid last season scoring 5 goals and provided 4 assists.
- Phil Foden



Phil Foden is an exciting football star playing for Manchester City and England national team. Last season, he played 38 times, providing 8 goals and 9 assists before the season ended.
- Mason Greenwood



Mason Greenwood is another sensational football talent playing for England national team. The 19-year-old Manchester United’s forward played 49 times last season scoring 17 goals and providing 5 assists in all competitions.
- Jadon Sancho



Jadon Sancho is one of the biggest 20-year-old English football sensations from last season until date. Last season, he scored 20 goals and provided 20 assists in 44 games for Borussia Dortmund.
- Alphonso Davies



Alphonso Davies is a 19-year-old Canadian football sensation who played 43 times for Bayern Munich scoring 3 goals and provided 9 assists throughout the 2019-2020 season.
- Erling Haaland



Erling Haaland is the most likely youngster that could walk away with the Golden Boy Award 2020. Last season alone, the Norway striker scored 44 goals and provided 10 assists in 40 games for both RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund.
- Jonathan David



Jonathan David blew the minds of Genk’s fans away last season after scoring 23 goals and provided 10 assists in 40 appearances. The performance earned him a move to Ligue 1 side Lille.
