All Sports Suspended until September In France: Ligue 1, Ligue 2 and the top French Leagues are affected

    The prime minister, Edouard Philippe in France made an announcement today that all sports competition at all levels has been banned until September. As a result, the 2019 – 2020 season for Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 has ended following the aggressive effect of the Coronavirus pandemic.

    Earlier in March, France suspended matches in the country and imposed a lockdown in other to contain the coronavirus. And now the suspension will continue until September and this means there won’t be enough time for Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 teams to finish the season 2019 – 2020 football season.

    Although other leagues are contemplating reopening, prime minister Edouard Philippe is unwilling to risk lives to entertain sports and he is willing to allow these teams to suffer the financial consequences. “The big sporting affairs cannot occur before September,” he said during his speck at the national assembly. “The 2019-20 professional football season cannot return.” He added.

    However, the French football league (LPF) and the French Football Federation (FFF) will meet next month to discuss league placings, league winners among other things.
