Alexis Sanchez in Inter Milan

Alexis Sanchez of Inter Milan is set to move to Marseille. A meeting scheduled for tomorrow, August 2, 2022, may see Inter and Sanchez reach an agreement to mutually terminate the forward’s contract.

Al Aire Libre, a Chilean news source, claimed that the 33-year-old is getting closer to moving to Marseille and that his agent Fernando Felicevich will try to reach a deal on his departure during Tuesday’s meeting with the Nerazzurri.

Alexis Sanchez is rumoured to be close to a move to Marseille, where he would join loanee Nuno Tavares and Mateo Guendouzi.

The Chilean joined the Italians on a free transfer in 2020, but in 108 games, he has only managed 20 goals and 23 assists (a goal or assist every 2.5 games).

That’s an improvement over the five goals and nine assists he had in 45 games for United (one goal or assist per 3.2 games), but it’s still not as good as the 80 goals and 45 assists he had at Arsenal in 166 games (a goal or assist every 1.3 games).

Following yet another disastrous turn in the Chilean international’s career, Ligue 1 club Marseille have expressed interest in signing the former Arsenal superstar.

Since Alexis Sanchez switched from the red of Arsenal to the red of Manchester United in January 2018, the former Arsenal legend has struggled. Sanchez left Manchester United for Inter Milan after failing miserably at Old Trafford, but he is now seen as unnecessary at San Siro as well.

Although it is generally accepted that Sanchez, a champion of the Copa America, has passed his prime at age 33, the forward still harbors dreams of participating in the Champions League next season. Sanchez is rumored to be interested in a move, which is where Marseille enters the picture to offer him playing time in Europe’s top club league.

Sanchez and the French team have reportedly been in contact and are in the advanced stages of negotiations, although a transfer is most likely only conceivable if the former Premier League star rips up his Inter Milan contract.

Sanchez had a respectable season last year, scoring 14 goals across all competitions, but Simone Inzaghi is not likely to include him in his plans. The 33-year-old was required to provide most of his minutes off the bench even last season.

Sanchez saw that his time in Serie A is running out last season since he played much fewer games than he did the year before. He would have the opportunity to team up with two players who had experience at the Emirates if he moved to Marseille.

Much criticized Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares is trying to bounce back from what was a challenging first season in the Premier League and has just recently had his loan move to the south of France completed.

In recent years, Marseille and Arsenal have developed a strong working relationship. William Saliba, who spent the previous season on loan at the Stade Velodrome, had a very successful time there before rejoining the Gunners. Before making his move official earlier this summer, Guendouzi first left on loan before joining on a permanent deal.

If Sanchez can put an end to his Inter Milan difficulties, he will join a lengthy list of athletes who have worn the Arsenal and Marseille jerseys.
