Newcastle United avenged their loss to Chelsea in the Premier League with a lovely victory over Enzo Maresca’s side at St James’ Park.

The Magpies were beaten 2-1 by the Blues on Sunday, October 27, 2024, but Eddie Howe’s side returned the favor with a morale-boosting win.

    Alexander Isak’s Opener

Alexander Isak put the hosts ahead 23 minutes into the fixture following some shambolic defending by Chelsea.

Renato Veiga lost the ball for the visitors and it deflected off Sandro Tonali into the path of Isak, who rolled the ball into the bottom corner.

With the goal, Alexander Isak recorded his second goal in successive games for Newcastle United and in back-to-back matches against Chelsea.

Enzo Maresca’s side were playing with fire, and they were punished in next to no time for their misdeeds.

Axel Disasi Compounds Chelsea’s Woes Against Newcastle United

Three minutes later, things went from bad to worse for Chelsea, as Axel Disasi put the ball into his own net.

Alexander Isak had received the ball from Lewis Hall on the left and the Swedish attacker subsequently delivered a dangerous ball into the box.

Joe Willock flicked the ball on before Disasi made a mess of it and surprisingly turned it into his own net.

Despite much effort from a much-changed Chelsea set-up, they couldn’t alter the scoreline, with Newcastle United concluding the game with a 2-0 victory.

It appears Enzo Maresca’s heavy rotation of the squad backfired against Eddie Howe’s side, as some players didn’t perform up to the level required.

Hopefully, Maresca finds a way to utilize the full complement of his team even when there is the need to rest players.

Newcastle United’s Winless Run Halted In The 4th Game

The victory saw the Magpies end their 3-game winless run, with the St James’ Park side last securing a win on October 1, 2024, a 1-0 Carabao Cup 3rd round triumph over AFC Wimbledon.

Moreover, Chelsea also appear to be on a poor patch, having lost 2 of their last 4 matches.

    Chelsea Lose First Major Silverware

The latest loss has seen them crash out of the EFL Cup, a competition that could have offered them silverware this season.

Anyway, there are still several laurels to battle for, with the FA Cup title and UEFA Europa Conference League still on the cards.

Chelsea also appear to be outside challengers for the Premier League title although they are not one of the favorites for the trophy.

    Newcastle United’s Next Match?

Newcastle United return to action on Saturday, November 2, 2024, trading tackles with Arsenal at St James’ Park.
