The Premier League and Champions League winner is set to bring his stint to Manchester City to an end after joining the club in 2017/18 season from Athletic Bilbao. Laporte had two years remaining in his Manchester City contract but was linked with a move away from the club after he fell out of favor in Pep Guardiola’s defence options.

Manchester City were open to Aymeric Laporte’s departure after the club talked in Kyle Walker into agreeing new terms with the club amidst interest from Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, Laporte was already on the peripheries at Manchester City, making only 12 Premier League appearances for the club last term.

The Spanish footballer had a good start to his Manchester City career after joining the club from Laliga. He has racked up 180 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals and has won five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five EFL Cup, and a Champions League.

His Manchester City fortunes began to decline with the likes of John Stones, Manuel Akanji, and Ruben Dias, ahead of him in Guardiola’s pecking order.

The signing of Josko Gvardiol this summer from RB Leipzig was certainly going to push Aymeric Laporte more to the wall and an exit solution was the best option for the Spaniard.

Al Nassr was not Aymeric Laporte’s first point of call. Futballnews understands he was linked to other top clubs in Europe amid interest from the Saudi Pro League giants.

While Al Nassr advanced on the move for Laporte, the out-of-favor center and left-back was reportedly ready to continue with his career on European soil. A late interests was reported from Real Madrid but the Los Blancos allowed the move slide making no offer for the player.

Aymeric Laporte will join Al Nassr as a last-ditch effort to save his career after falling off the ranking in City’s recent overhauled defence line.

The 29-year-old is the fourth high-profile European player to join Al Nassr this summer after the club signed Seko Fofana from Lens, Marcelo Brozovic from Inter Milan, Alex Telles from Manchester United, and Sadio Mane from Bayern Munich.

He is also the second Manchester City player to exit the club to Saudi Pro League after Riyad Mahrez also left the club to Al Ahli.

Laporte, who plays on center-back or left-back roles, will be strong addition to Al Nassr, who have stumbled on their first two 2023/24 League matches, conceding four goals and settling for two consecutive defeats.

Aymeric Laporte will complete the switch to the Saudi club this week after his medical and signing of contract. He is the 31st player snapped up by Saudi clubs from European leagues this summer.
