Al-Nassr have confirmed the postponement of their first game after they signed Cristiano Ronaldo as a free agent
The club, which have been making waves after Cristiano Ronaldo signing was to take on Al-Ta’i in their first game at 16:00 today, January 5.
The match was to be played at their home ground – Mrsool Park Stadium where Cristiano Ronaldo was unveiled as their new player.
The Portuguese star was expected to feature in the game after a successful unveiling by the club, but it was later confirmed he will not make his debut for the club in the first game since he is serving a two-match ban he picked up in the English Premier League while playing for Manchester United.
In 2021, Cristiano Ronaldon was furious after Manchester United lost to Everon at Goodison Park. As the players make their way off the field to the exit tunnel after the game, a young Everon fan, Jacob Harding, was busy trying to take pictures of the players.
A furious Cristiano Ronaldo was caught on camera smacking the phone off Jacob Harding’s hand. Although he later apologized for the misdeed, he was later slammed with a two match ban by the English FA.
Despite his fallout with Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo was expected to serve the ban although he is not playing in the English Premier League. Flouting the two-match ban, will attract stiffer and severe sanctions by FIFA.
Meanwhile, Al-Nassr are reportedly desperate to feature Cristiano Ronaldo at least in one of the first two matches and are exploring for possible loopholes in FIFA rules to manoeuvre through and include him in the starting lineup at least in the second game.
Now, they have been compelled to wait a bit longer in their bid to bring on the Portuguese star to their hungry fans.
This is because the game against A-Tai has been called off following a heavy downpour.
The Mrsool Park Stadium where Cristiano Ronaldo was unveiled as Al-Nassr player was hit with heavy rainfall.
The match has now been postponed till the next day with the club hoping to proceed with the game when the weather condition brightens at least in the next 24 hours.
Confirming the incident, Al Nassr tweeted;
“Due to heavy rain and weather conditions impacting the stadium’s electricity, we have been officially informed that tonight’s match against Al Ta’i is postponed for 24 hours.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused to fans and wish everyone safe travels.”
Al-Nassr has effectively cashed into Cristiano Ronaldo’s popularity and fame. Since his arrival at the club, the social media has been buzzing. The club has gained massive social media following tapping from the highly rated star, who is the most followed Instagram personality with over 500million followers.
Al-Nassr had 860k followers on Instagram before they signed Cristiano Ronaldo. Now, they are approaching 10million and have surpassed major European clubs such as Inter Milan, Ajax, Napoli, Roma, and others.
The Portuguese star signed the biggest football contract ever with Al-Nassr, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal that will see him earn £173million every year.
