Al-Duhail Sign Philippe Coutinho From Aston Villa

Al-Duhail have completed the signing of Philippe Coutinho on loan from Aston Villa for the entirety of the 2023/24 season.

Coutinho has put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the Qatari club, which is valid until June 30, 2024.

Confirming the arrival of Philippe Coutinho to Al-Duhail, the club put out a statement on their official website which reads:

“In the framework of its endeavor to support the first football team, the club management was able to win the services of the star of the Brazilian national team and the English Aston Villa team, Philippe Coutinho…”

He made 22 appearances across all competitions for Aston Villa last season, scoring 1 goal and providing no assist.

Coutinho becomes the 6th arrival for Al-Duhail this summer, having signed Ibra Bamba, Ibrahima Diallo, Isaac Lihadji, Moon-hwan Kim, and Mohamed Saeed.

The 31-year-old has made only two substitute appearances for Aston Villa this season, scoring no goal and providing no assist.

Philippe Coutinho’s current deal with the Villans runs until June 30, 2026, having signed a permanent deal with the club from Barcelona on July 1, 2022.

Coutinho initially joined Aston Villa on loan from the Catalan club on January 7, 2022, and he had an impressive loan stint at Villa Park.

The former Liverpool forward has had a wishy-washy spell at Aston Villa, having initially impressed, following his arrival from Barcelona.

The English club were delighted to snap him up from Barcelona for £17 million, despite Coutinho having a disappointing four-year spell at Camp Nou.

Philippe Coutinho scored 25 goals and provided 14 assists in 106 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions.

The 31-year-old has battled recurrent injuries at Barcelona, scoring a brilliant goal on his Premier League debut with Aston Villa.

The Brazilian made his league debut for the Lions on Saturday, January 15, 2022, in a 2-2 draw against Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Coutinho will be teaming up with compatriot Edmilson Junior at Al-Duhail, and the Qatari club will be aiming to achieve success in the 2023/24 season.

Al-Duhail currently sit 3rd in the Qatar Stars League with 7 points from 3 matches played.

The Red Knights defeated Al-Ahli by 1-2 in their opening game of the league season, before smashing Muaither SC by 4-1.

In their third game of the Qatar Stars League for the 2023/24 season, Al Duhail played out a 3-3 draw with Al-Arabi.

Philippe Coutinho should make his debut for the Qatari club on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, in an Asian Champions League encounter against FC Istiklol.

Al-Duhail are managed by Argentine great Hernán Crespo, and he led the Qatari club to the Qatar Stars League for the 2022/23 season.

The former AC Milan striker also led The Red Knights to the Qatari Stars Cup for the 2022/23 season.
