Ajax Provide Update On Edwin Van Der Sar’s Health Condition

Ajax have provided an update on the health condition of Dutch Legend Edwin Van Der Sar, on behalf of his wife, Annemarie and there is positive development emanating from their camp.

The Dutch giants have revealed that Van Der Sar is “still in the intensive care unit” but is “not in life threatening danger”.

The ex-Manchester United shot-stopper suffered a brain hemorrhage while he was on holiday in Croatia last week.

Via a statement shared on Twitter, Ajax stated that Edwin Van Der Sar is in stable condition and they will have to wait patiently to see what occurs next.

They wrote: “Edwin is still in the intensive care unit, but is stable. 

“He is not in life-threatening danger. Every time we get to visit him, he’s communicative. We have to wait patiently to see how his situation will develop.”

Edwin Van Der Sar was taken to a hospital via an helicopter last Friday but Ajax maintain that the legendary goalkeeper is in a stable condition.

The Netherland side have also expressed how touched and grateful they are by the support of many concerning this incident.

They wrote: “Ajax shares this information on behalf of Annemarie van der Sar, Edwin’s wife,’ the club added on Sunday. 

“The Van der Sar family, along with Ajax, is grateful and deeply touched by the many messages of support.”

Edwin Van Der Sar made 312 appearances for Ajax, scoring one goal and he represented the side from 1990 till 1999.

The Eredivisie side also displayed their support to their former shot-stopper on Saturday, July 8, 2023 wearing shirts imprinted with “Van Der Sar 1” on the back.

Those shirts were worn ahead of their pre-season friendly against Eerste Divisie side Den Bosch.

This information is coming after Edwin Van Der Sar’s agent, Rob Jansen also gave an update on the health condition of the retired goalkeeper on Wednesday, July 11, 2023.

Whilst discussing on the Kieft Jansen Egmond Gijp podcast, he expressed concern over the 52-year-old’s health status, but revealed it’s under control.

Rob Jansen said: “Of course things are not going well.

“But not good and good. That’s what it’s called under control.”

However, he shared the need to protect the family of the goalkeeper as Van Der Sar is in capable hands.

“You have to protect the family in this. He’s in good hands. Annemarie is there with her son. There is continuous contact from the Netherlands about how to proceed.”

Rob Jansen also revealed that Edwin Van Der Sar’s wife, Annemarie has also had a brain haemorrhage in the past.

He said: “He needs to rest very well. We are confident that this will work out, but it is not small. 

“A brain haemorrhage is very serious. She (Annemarie) had it herself in 2009. She recognises a lot of what happened to her then.”

The 52-year-old joined Manchester United on the 10th of June, 2005 from Fulham for a reported fee of £2 million and he made 266 appearances for the English giants.

Van Der Sar amassed a remarkable 135 clean sheets during his time at Old Trafford and he won many trophies including; one Champions League title and four Premier League titles.

He was amongst the team that achieved the second three-peat in Manchester United and English top-flight League history.

Sir Alex Ferguson also considers Edwin Van Der Sar as the best goalkeeper to have played for the Red Devils since Peter Schmeichel.

The Dutchman made 130 appearances for Netherland and he is arguably the greatest goalkeeper to have donned the Oranje shirt.
