In the history of football, it has never been noticed that three of the five major leagues in Europe were won by clubs that finished the season with the same league records. Interestingly, the 2021-2022 season gave football fans such an amazing coincidence.

In the outgoing 2021-2022 season, AC Milan, Paris Saint Germain, and Real Madrid won their domestic leagues with similar league records, a feat that has never been seen in European club football.

Note that AC Milan won the Italian Serie A title in the 2021-2022 season ahead of second-placed Inter Milan with 86 points in 38 games. They achieve that by recording 26 league victories, 8 draws, and 4 defeats.

Interestingly, Real Madrid won the 2021-2022 Spanish La Liga title ahead of second-placed FC Barcelona with the same number of games, points, wins, draws, and losses as their Italian Serie A counterparts, AC Milan.

The same thing applied to PSG which won the French Ligue 1 in the 2021-2022 season ahead of Marseille which made the outgoing season more interesting to look back on.

Since their League records are similar, what differentiates AC Milan, Real Madrid, and PSG in the 2021-2022 season?

AC Milan celebrates their Italian Serie A triumph in the 2021-2022 season.

Though AC Milan, Real Madrid, and PSG won their separate domestic leagues with equal league records in the 2021-2022 season, they have things that set them apart this season.

One of the things they don’t have in common this season is their performance in the UEFA Champions League campaign. For instance, AC Milan finished the continental campaign at the bottom of Group B with just a win and a draw in six games.

As for PSG, despite how star-studded the French side was this season, they managed to finish second in the group stage of the competition (Group A). Real Madrid knocked out the French club from the competition in the round of 16 stage.

On the other hand, Real Madrid finished top of Group D despite recording a defeat. Afterward, they scale through European giants like PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester City to get to the 2021-2022 UEFA Champions final. They are scheduled to take on Liverpool in the final on Saturday, May 28, 2022.

Apart from that, the prize money AC Milan, PSG, and Real Madrid earned for winning their separate domestic leagues this season is extremely different from what Real Madrid is expected to earn due to a juicier revenue from TV rights.

For instance, the prize money PSG earned for winning the French Ligue 1 title this season is around €60 million. While Real Madrid could earn nothing less than €158 million in prize money for winning the Spanish La Liga.

Meanwhile, the prize money AC Milan got for winning the Serie A title this season is around €100 million. Hence, their similar league records were nothing in terms of the clubs’ financial rewards.
