While there have been speculations on the meaning and significance of the treatment, it is understood it has nothing to do with spiritism but a traditional spa treatment common in some traditional African settings and parts of America.

Rooted in folk medicine, the treatment aims to detoxify the player and enable a relaxation of the body and mind. This is achieved when the towel, treated with selected herbs and steam, is wrapped on one’s head to aid inhalation of the herbs.

After a gruelling campaign with Manchester United last season, Wan-Bissaka must have opted for the traditional therapy to get himself back in gear as he prepares for the next campaign.
