After Arsenal reported a supporter for suspected racial abuse directed at their substitutes’ bench during their 4-1 Premier League victory over Leeds United on Saturday, police made one arrest.

The arrest was made during the first half of the match at Elland Road, according to Leeds.

“Racism will not be tolerated at Leeds United and any supporter found to be using racist language will be subject to a life time ban for all Leeds United games,” the club said in a statement.

Just after the half-hour mark, Arsenal substitute Rob Holding was seen talking to the fourth official before a member of the Leeds staff was contacted.

“I can confirm it and it was reported to stadium manager,” Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta told reporters.

“The authorities will investigate that. One of the players on the bench heard those comments. I don’t know exactly who it was directed at.”

Arsenal clinched their place in the top four with a 4-1 win over Leeds, thanks to a double from Gabriel Martinelli.

Emile Smith (substitute) and Bukayo Saka Arsenal’s other goals came from Rowe, giving them their third win in a row and their first away from home since October 30.

Due to an increase in coronavirus infections across the league, it was the only Premier League game to go ahead on Saturday, with Burnley’s trip to Aston Villa being postponed two hours before kick-off.

Arsenal leads Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, and West Ham United by four points in fourth place, although they all have games in hand on the Gunners.

Leeds, on the other hand, have won only one of their previous eight games and are five points above the relegation zone, despite having played at least two more games than Newcastle and Burnley below them.
