The Champions League finalists failed to land the Ligue 1 top scorer with the last bid of £154 million at the close of the previous summer transfer window, sparking a season of speculation that Kylian Mbappe would join Real Madrid when his contract expires this summer.

Fayza Lamari, Mbappe’s mother, stated on Friday that the 23-year-old has reached an agreement with both clubs over “nearly comparable” bids. Following their goalless draw against Real Betis at the Bernabeu on Friday, Perez informed Carlo Ancelotti’s side that Mbappe would not be joining them in Madrid, according to Spanish football analyst Guillem Balague.

The journalist and broadcaster appeared to imply that both Madrid and PSG were willing to pay Mbappe a €150 million (£126.7 million) signing-on fee in addition to wages and bonuses.

According to a report published on Thursday, Mbappe was promised £4 million a month and ‘full control’ of the club’s sporting project by the French champions. On Sunday, the 2018 World Cup winner remained tight-lipped about his future, despite reports that he was close to signing a five-year contract with Real Madrid.’

“I can’t say anything about my future, but you’ll know very soon… it’s almost decided,” the former Monaco striker told Marca. “This isn’t the right time, but yes, yes… I’ve made my decision.

While Mbappe’s mother said: “The two offers, PSG’s and Real’s, are nearly comparable. My son will be in charge of his image rights at Real. We’ll have to wait for his choice.

“On the one hand, we have complete control over picture rights in the Real Madrid offer. However, there is an economic equilibrium that favors this outcome. In short, there is no distinction between the two; they are identical.”

Mbappe signed a permanent contract with PSG for £166 million in 2018 after spending a season on loan from Monaco.

Mbappe, the second-most expensive player in history after teammate Neymar, scored 25 goals and added 17 assists as PSG won Ligue 1 by a comfortable margin this season. Madrid knocked Mauricio Pochettino’s side out of the Champions League round of 16 in spectacular fashion.

Karim Benzema scored three times in the closing 29 minutes of the tie at the Bernabeu to overturn PSG’s 2-0 aggregate lead and Mbappe didn’t fail to score in both legs.
