Wayne Rooney and Jamie Vardy followed their wives, Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy to court earlier today, May 17, 2022, as the Wagatha Christie trial continues to blow hot.

The Wagatha Christie trial was formerly known as the Vardy v Rooney trial. It is called Wagatha Christie trial because it involves WAG – wives or lovers of football stars as a result of the works of Agatha Christie, a mystery writer.

Rebekah Vardy is suing Coleen Rooney for accusing her (via social media) of leaking Coleen’s private life issues to the Sun Newspaper in 2019. Coleen claimed that Rebekah sold her private stories to the British publication, a claim Rebekah had denied.

Hence, Rebekah had to drag Coleen Rooney to the High Court of Justice to clear her name. Rebekah is expected to convince the court that Coleen leaked her stories to the Sun and that she published the accusation on social media in the interest of the public.

The Wagatha Christie trial started on May 10, 2022. Ever since the trial started, Wayne Rooney has been following his wife to court. Earlier today, May 17, it was Rooney’s turn to give evidence to the court.

During his presentation in the witness box, Wayne Rooney claimed that he did not know much about the “Wagatha sting operation” which started during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Rooney who is a former captain of the England national team and a Manchester United legend told the court that he could remember Rebekah Vardy’s conduct during Euro 2016 in which she was trying to attract so much attention to herself.

“She was almost there with the team, she was there a lot,” Wayne Rooney told the court.

Wayne Rooney was in court today, May 17, 2022 with Coleen Rooney, his wife.

The ex-footballer who is now the manager of Derby County told the court that Rebekah Vardy’s conduct was so disturbing and distracting that the head coach of the Three Lions of England then, Roy Hodgson, told him to have a discussion with Jamie Vardy over Rebekah’s conduct.

“They asked me to, as captain, would I be able to speak to Mr. Vardy on issues regarding his wife and I think we all knew we spoke about it, it was an awkward subject.”

Rooney confirmed to the court that he urged Jamie Vardy to “ask his wife to calm down and not bring any issues off the field that were unnecessary”.

In the Wagatha Christie libel case, Wayne Rooney told the court that he never spoke to Jamie Vardy about it because he did not see the Leicester City striker as a friend outside football.

Wayne Rooney, the husband of Coleen Rooney.

While giving his evidence in court on Tuesday, Wayne Rooney acknowledged that the Wagatha Christie saga has been very traumatic for his wife, Coleen Rooney.

The 37-year-old coach stressed that the scandal made his wife a different person to him and to their children – Kai Wayne (born 2 November 2009), Klay Anthony (born 21 May 2013), Kit Joseph (born 24 January 2016), and Cass Mac (born 15 February 2018).

“I’ve watched my wife over the past two, two and a half years, really struggle with everything that’s gone on… become a different mother, a different wife”, Wayne Rooney said.

“It’s been very traumatic for my wife.”

Speaking further, Wayne Rooney told the court that personal information about his wife were revealed to the Sun in January 2019 when he was playing for Major League Soccer club, DC United.

Rooney admitted that his wife believes that the private information was leaked to the Sun by Rebekah Vardy, the wife of Jamie Vardy who is also known as ‘Becky’.

“Whilst it was obviously upsetting Coleen, I didn’t want to get involved”, Rooney wrote in his statement to the court. “I don’t read the press, particularly The Sun, and I have never been particularly active on social media (or at least I wasn’t active on social media at the time).

“Coleen keeps a lot to herself and I just didn’t pay much attention to the matter at all…

“I remember she uploaded something on Twitter to make it clear that she was aware of what was happening and that she was unhappy about it.

“I think it was around this time that Coleen had mentioned to me that she thought it could be Becky.”

The court is expected to give its verdict on the ongoing Wagatha Christie trial later in the year.
