Coleen Rooney, the wife of former Manchester United forward, Wayne Rooney was in court on Friday, May 13, 2022, to continue with her libel trial filed by Rebekah Vardy, the wife of Jamie Vardy of Leicester City.
During her appearance in court, Coleen Rooney revealed to the court how her marriage with ex-England international, Wayne Rooney almost crashed in 2017.
Recall that Wayne Rooney was arrested for drink-driving in September 2017. The alcohol in his system influenced him to drive beyond the speed limit while traveling with an unnamed lady suspected to be a lady he picked up from a bar.
The scandal caused a serious crisis in the family of Wayne Rooney that his wife, Coleen Rooney had to share some of her thoughts concerning the scandal on a private Instagram account.
During her appearance in court on Friday, Coleen Rooney admitted that she “was in a vulnerable situation, I didn’t know how my marriage was going to work out”.
Then, the crisis between Wayne Rooney and Coleen went so bad that Rooney’s wife and children had to leave the footballer’s house. Coleen and Rooney’s children had to stay at Coleen’s parents’ house during the peak of the scandal.
Coleen told the court that at that point, she and the ex-footballer were trying to figure out their “relationship, and see how things were going.”
Months after, The Sun Newspaper published that Wayne Rooney was back in his matrimonial bed with Coleen, information the ex-footballer’s wife shared on her private Instagram account.
“That was information that I was happy to share in the private group… but I didn’t want the public to know that”, Coleen told the court.
Then, Coleen Rooney took to her Twitter page to accuse Rebekah of leaking the information to The Sun since she was the only outsider that had access to Coleen’s private Instagram account. But Rebekah denied the accusation saying Coleen’s account could have been hacked.
“If you needed the money that bad you could have always just asked instead of being SLY”, Coleen wrote on social media then.
After a series of social media wars between the two footballers’ wives, Rebekah decided to sue Coleen for libel. The Libel trial which started this week is known as the Wagatha Christie case which might cost the two parties a whopping £2 million before the end of the case.
The Libel trial which is before high court judge Mrs. Justice Steyn is expected to last a couple more days before the final ruling comes up later in the year.

Before their union, Rebekah had two children, a daughter Megan (born 2005), and a son Taylor (born 2010) from her former relationship with footballer Luke Foster. Also, Jamie Vardy has a daughter, Ella, from a previous relationship.
