The Premier League is regarded as the most competitive league in the world and the league comprises top European clubs that are well funded. Despite how well funded the Premier League clubs are, there is one thing they have not been able to achieve, which is to win the Quadruple.

When a team wins the Quadruple, especially in the context of English football, such a club wins the UEFA Champions League, the Premier League, The EFL or Carabao Cup, and the FA Cup in one season.

Since the beginning of 2022, Liverpool football club looked like the English club that will break the jinx by winning the quadruple since they are still involved in all the aforementioned competitions.

But recent events, especially in the Premier League are gradually putting a big doubt on the possibility that Liverpool will be the first English team to achieve such a feat in the 2021-2022 season.

Below are the competitions Liverpool are still involved in and the possibility of winning them to achieve their quadruple dream

  1. EFL Cup

Recall that on February 27, 2022, Liverpool faced Chelsea in the EFL Cup final at Wembley Stadium. The match dragged into a penalty shootout. After the thrilling shootout, Liverpool won the title 11-10 via penalties.

  1. Premier League

After they won the EFL Cup in February, the talk about the club winning a quadruple this season became louder and everything seems to be going on as planned until Liverpool drew 1-1 with Tottenham in a Premier League game on Saturday, May 7, 2022.

The draw is a big blow to Liverpool’s hope of overtaking Manchester City on the Premier League table. Currently, Liverpool are sitting on the second spot on the Premier League table with 83 points in 35 games, three points away from first-placed Manchester City.

Recall that after Liverpool recorded a 1-1 draw on Saturday, Manchester City played against Newcastle United on Sunday and slammed the club 5-0. The high number of goals against Newcastle has helped Manchester City to have four goals difference ahead of Liverpool.

Hence, Liverpool can only win the Premier League title if Manchester City lose one and draw one of their remaining three Premier League games which are against Wolves on May 11, West Ham on May 15, and Aston Villa on May 22.

On the other hand, Liverpool need to win all their remaining three Premier League games which are against Aston Villa on May 10, Southampton on May 17, and Wolves on May 22.

As it stands, if there is any probability that Manchester City will drop more than three points in their remaining three league games this season, then, Liverpool would definitely drop a point or two before the season ends. Hence, the 2021-2022 Premier League title is for Manchester City.

  1. UEFA Champions League

Before May 28, 2022, the date for the 2021-2022 UEFA Champions League final, Liverpool would have forgotten about winning the Quadruple this season.

On the said date, Liverpool will face Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League for the second time in three years. Recall that Real Madrid won the 2019 edition of the tournament after beating Liverpool in the final.

Hence, the 2022 edition of the tournament will be an opportunity for Liverpool to revenge but it would not be easy for both sides, especially for Liverpool. At the end of the day, it could be a slim win for the Premier League side in Paris.

  1. FA Cup

On Saturday, May 14 at 16:45, Liverpool will meet Chelsea in the final of the FA Cup at the Wembley Stadium. Recall that Liverpool defeated Liverpool via penalties in February to win the EFL Cup. Hence, it will be an opportunity for Chelsea to revenge.

But going by the recent form of Chelsea, it is looking like it is going to be a win for Liverpool but the game will not be easy for both sides.

All things being equal, Liverpool are expected to end the 2021-2022 season with at least two major titles but they can’t finish the season with a quadruple.
