Today, we can confirm alongside another big news outlet that Mino Raiola had died after some type of illness.

A statement released by the Raiola family on Saturday read: “In infinite sorrow we share the passing of the most caring and amazing football agent that ever was.

“Mino fought until the end with the same strength he put on negotiation tables to defend our players. As usual, Mino made us proud and never realized it.

“Mino touched so many lives through his work and wrote a new chapter in the history of modern football. His presence will forever be missed.

“Mino’s mission of making football a better place for players will continue with the same passion.

“We thank everybody for the huge amount of support received during these difficult times and ask for respect to the privacy of family and friends in this moment of grief.”

In January, Raiola’s account tweeted that he was receiving “routine” medical examinations and had not required “emergency intervention.”

Raiola’s family confirmed his death two days after false allegations of his death circulated. “I am disturbed by the phone calls from pseudo-journalists who speculate on the life of a guy who is struggling,” Alberto Zangrillo, head of the anaesthesia and intensive care unit at San Raffaele hospital in Milan, where Raiola was being treated, stated.

In the 1990s, Raiola rose to popularity in the Netherlands and Italy, where he was instrumental in the transfers of Dennis Bergkamp and Pavel Nedved to Serie A.

Raiola most recently assisted with the transfer of Paul Pogba from Juventus to Manchester United, as well as Erling Haaland from Red Bull Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund.

From pizzeria worker to super-agent, Raiola has rose to the top

Roderick Turpijn’s name may be unfamiliar to you. He was a Dutch footballer who played for Ajax for a few years in the 1990s before moving on to De Graafschap and eventually retiring from the game in his mid-twenties.

It doesn’t matter. He’d already put himself up for the rest of his life with that one transfer.Turpijn stated as much in his report of the transaction. His agent had walked out on negotiations with De Graafschap – then and now an unimpressive Dutch team – in an astonishing display of brinkmanship.

He requested that they pay Turpijn the same as he did at Ajax.Surprisingly, the club approved and even added bonuses. Even before you learn that the number his agent said Turpijn was earning at Ajax was a complete fabrication, this is impressive work.

Mino Raiola was that agent.

Raiola’s three biggest deals

1. Paul Pogba – Juventus to Manchester United – £89m – 2016

This transfer, taking France midfielder Pogba back to Old Trafford, was a world record at the time.

2. Romelu Lukaku – Everton to Manchester United – £75m – 2017

Belgium striker Lukaku split with Raiola in April 2018 and is now represented Federico Pastorello, who conducted his subsequent transfers to Inter Milan and back to former club Chelsea.

3. Matthijs de Ligt – Ajax to Juventus – £67.5m – 2019

De Ligt led Ajax to the Champions League semi-finals in 2018-19, winning the Golden Boy award for the best under-21 player in Europe that season, before joining Juventus.
