Kurt Zouma: The Frenchman club fine has been donated to nine animal welfare groups by West Ham United.
After videos of him slapping and kicking one of his pet cats surfaced on social media last month, the Premier League team fined Zouma a staggering £250,000.
Following the incident, the RSPCA put the 27-year-cats old’s into custody.
Domestic charities that will benefit include Cats Protection, People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals, Pussycat Lodge Trust, Hopefield Animal Sanctuary, National Animal Welfare Trust, and Celia Hammond Animal Trust.
The Hammers donate to three worldwide causes: Humane Society International/UK, International Fund Animal Welfare, and War Paws.
According to a statement from the Hammers, “our staff at the West Ham United Foundation underwent a detailed and thorough procedure to determine the organisations that would greatly benefit from a financial commitment.”
“West Ham United would want to express their gratitude to everyone who contacted the club to suggest animal welfare organisations and good causes, guaranteeing that something unpleasant has resulted in a great positive.”
What was Kurt Zouma’s crime?
Following his brother’s video showed the French defender kicking and slapping his cat across a room, Kurt Zouma now faces RSPCA and criminal charges after his two felines were taken away from him.
Some in the football community chastised Moyes and West Ham for starting Zouma against Watford on Tuesday night, but the Scot assured the 27-year-old will continue to play for the Hammers, including at Leicester on Sunday.
And Moyes, whose side is fourth in the Premier League heading into this weekend’s play, believes that the incident has ruined what should have been a happy time for the club.
At a press conference on Friday, Moyes said, “I’ve never had one (an event) like this.” ‘It just goes to show that as a football manager, you never know what you’re going to receive.’ That’s just a part of the job.We’d rather not be in the news.’ In the last two years, West Ham has created a lot of excellent news.’
