Aaron Ramsdale missed Arsenal’s Premier League game against Aston Villa on Saturday, March 19, 2022, because of a muscle injury.

Ramsdale who has been Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper since the 2021-2022 season commenced was between the sticks when Liverpool defeated Arsenal 2-0 on Wednesday, March 16, 2022.

Ahead of the Premier League game between Arsenal and Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday, Arsenal’s coach, Mikel Arteta confirmed that the 23-year-old English goalkeeper would not travel for the match.

While explaining further, the Spanish tactician revealed that the injury Aaron Ramsdale sustained in his muscle would keep him out of football for more than two weeks.

The coach said: “Aaron Ramsdale has got an injury, he had an injury in his oblique muscle and he will be out for a few weeks.”

Also, ahead of the match, Ramsdale took to his verified Twitter page to write: “Different view today. Nothing but love and support to my team”, to confirm that he was not going to be part of the squad.

Hence, Arsenal veteran goalkeeper and the club’s former number one, Bernd Leno replaced the English goalkeeper. Fortunately, the 30-year-old German goalkeeper kept a clean shirt as Arsenal defeated Aston Villa 1-0 away from home, thanks to Bukayo Saka’s 30th-minute strike from outside the eighteen yard box.

The win has brightened Arsenal’s chances of finishing in the top four. They are currently sitting on the 4th spot with 54 points in 28 games.

Though Aaron Ramsdale will be happy that Arsenal won the Premier League game, the English goalkeeper will be unhappy that the muscle injury will prevent him from linking up with England’s national team this month.

Recall that Ramsdale was among the players that coach Gareth Southgate invited for March international break. He was supposed to feature in England’s friendly matches against Switzerland on March 26 and against Ivory Coast on March 29.
