Thomas Tuchel has questioned Boris Johnson’s “priorities” after learning that Chelsea fans have been asked to stop showing their support for sanctioned club owner Roman Abramovich on the terraces.

When his assets were blocked by the government, the Russian oligarch, who has been at the head of Stamford Bridge since 2003, was in the process of trying to find a buyer for the Premier League heavyweights.

Chelsea are currently working in difficult circumstances, with their fans continuing to demonstrate their allegiances, and Thomas Tuchel believes that there are more pressing matters for everyone to face right now than the acts of those in the stands.

What did Boris Johnson says?

“We recognize the strength of sentiment behind people’s clubs, but that does not justify behavior that is utterly unacceptable at this time,” a representative for the prime minister said of the encouraging songs that the Stamford Bridge faithful continue to sing in Abramovich’s way.

“I believe that individuals may demonstrate their love and support for their team without resorting to such tactics.”

Thomas Tuchel’s Response

When asked about Johnson’s remarks ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League match against Lille, Tuchel replied, “I heard about it.” It was only a few minutes ago that I learned about it. I’m not sure if it’s the most important debate to have in parliament at this moment.

“I’m not sure if the fact that fan chants are being debated in parliament means we ought to be concerned about this government’s priorities.” But, okay, I’m not going to say anything. We have far more pressing matters to discuss and address.”

Tuchel is correct in pointing out that Chelsea’s issues are greater than their fans’ behavior at the moment, with the club needing to fund a trip to France after having their cash flow restricted.

The second leg of a last-16 tie in which the Blues are 2-0 up on aggregate will go forward as planned, but travel arrangements will need to be adjusted due to the costs involved.

“There are constraints, and we have to cope with them,” Tuchel remarked about Chelsea’s issues.

“There are changes in the number of employees, who travels, how many hotel rooms we have, and how we get to matches.”

“It’s not about opulence and glitz.” This is simply a professional level of sport, when we play two days between matches while our opponents play four days, and we arrive with the possibility of injury. It is preferable to arrive by airline rather than bus in this case. We make an effort to do so. According to my understanding, we have a plan in place to play in Lille with no excuses.”

“It is already more difficult to organize things on a professional level, in the best possible way, for the FA Cup in terms of these organizations.” But we’ll take care of it.

“We’ll stay competitive and work hard for our success as long as we have clothes and are alive as a squad.” We owe it to those who, despite their anonymity, support us. Of course, we’re in the spotlight, and it’s our job to make the most of it. “We’ll take care of it.”
