Frank Lampard Hailed Everton’s “Amazing” Performance As He Secured His First Premier League Victory

Frank Lampard called Everton’s performance “amazing” as he won his first Premier League game with the club in a rout of Leeds United in the first game of the season.

They are now five points above the relegation zone, having won their sixth league game in a row. Before that, they had lost six games in a row.

It was a lot of fun at Goodison Park when the game was over. Lampard’s name was chanted around the stadium as they cruised to victory in the second half.

“It had been a fantastic afternoon. In terms of performance, what we did today was exceptional. It demonstrated a positive attitude, aggressiveness, and work rate “Lampard spoke to BBC Sport about the situation.

“I can see how talented you are. When you look at the team as a whole, you can see that there is talent. It was all about coming together as a great team and fighting for the fans.

“It would have been fun for the fans, and I surely did. We’ll utilize it as a starting point for where we want to go in the league.

“Relief is three points, and the table appears to be slightly better this week, but I’m really proud of the effort. That has made me ecstatic.”

Captain Seamus Coleman scored the game’s first goal, knocking in a rebound from Donny van de Beek’s cross, before Michael Keane’s powerful header made it 2-0 early in the second half.

Everton, who had 21 shots on goal in the first half, looked alive in the second half with the return of Alex Iwobi and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in attack.

Van van Beek started for the first time for Everton and was significantly involved, especially in the first half, as Leeds struggled to generate traction.

Leeds goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was hardly tested, but Rodrigo came close to producing two magical moments in the first half as his long-range efforts crashed off the crossbar.

Everton, who moved to within a point of 15th-placed Leeds after maintaining their first clean sheet in 13 games, won comfortably.

Everton was under pressure to perform after a poor run of play, and Lampard’s side responded with vigour from the opening minute.

Within seconds after kick-off, Gordon came close to making it 1-0, but was stopped by Luke Ayling’s brilliant last-ditch block.

In the early stages, the hosts were also on top, with the Goodison fans roaring as Leeds were put under pressure.

Coleman’s ecstatic celebration – a yell towards the home fans, a badge grip, and a kiss on the cheek for Richarlison – demonstrated how much it meant to him to put his team ahead.

Everton continued their intensity after that, with supporters applauding big challenges from Mason Holgate and Alex Iwobi, before Richarlison received a standing ovation for his work in winning the corner that led to the second goal.

Leeds posed a threat in patches, with Rodrigo’s spectacular efforts hitting the crossbar twice, Jack Harrison striking wide, and Daniel James almost being passed in behind on a couple of occasions.

Everton, on the other hand, were well worth their victory – their first in the Premier League under new manager Lampard, and in 2022.

Shortly after Gordon had assisted Richarlison’s effort into the bottom corner for Everton’s third goal, the Blues boss thanked the Goodison Park supporters as they screamed his name.

They were almost granted a fourth goal to celebrate as well, but Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier superbly deflected Salomon Rondon’s strike over the bar.

Everton had their most shots in 78 Premier League games since December 2019, when they had 22 against Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is dealing with another injury issue in Stuart Dallas, who was forced off after only seven minutes.

Bielsa will be hoping the injury isn’t serious because his team’s next three games are against Manchester United, Liverpool, and Tottenham.
