Recall that Harriet recently took to her Instagram story to share images and visuals to confirm that Mason Greenwood assaulted and raped her.

The Instagram posts which have been deleted forced the police to arrest the footballer on Sunday. It also forced Manchester United to suspend the player until further notice.

More so, American sportswear manufacturing company, Nike, had to suspend its sponsorship deal with the protest due to the allegation.

At the time of publishing this report, the football star was still in police custody. The police applied for permission to detain him for further questioning which they have been granted.

After the questioning and other investigations, the police are expected to arraign him in court or release him on bail any moment from now.

Since Manchester United would not provide legal counsel for the football star, Greenwood has reportedly arranged personal legal representation for the ongoing scandal.

In August 2020, Manchester United have had to send legal representatives to support the club’s defender Harry Maguire when he was arrested on suspicion of assault and bribery in Greece.

Hence, Mason Greenwood is the second player in eleven years that Manchester United would not provide legal support for. The last time the club failed to provide legal support for a player was in 2011 when the club’s former player Ravel Morrison faced charges of witness intimidation at Trafford youth court.

In Greenwood’s absence at Manchester United, the players at the club undertook training sessions with coach Ralf Rangnick at Carrington as normal as it used to which means that the scandal has not affected protocol at the club.

As mentioned earlier, Greenwood has spent two nights in police custody. The police had to extend his stay in the custody to give room for more investigation.

A statement from the police read: “Detectives have been granted additional time to speak to a man in his 20s who is being held on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman.

“The suspect was arrested yesterday (Sunday 30 January) afternoon and remains in custody. Inquiries are ongoing and the victim is being offered specialist support.

“We remind people to avoid any commentary or sharing of images that could compromise the victim’s right to lifelong anonymity, or risk prejudicing a live investigation with active proceedings.”
