Roy Hodgson CBE is a former player and manager of the English football team. Beginning in 1976 with Halmstads BK in Sweden, he has managed 16 different clubs in eight different nations.

Claudio Ranieri was fired by the Hornets on Monday, leaving the team in the bottom three of the Premier League.

The club is eager to name a replacement as soon as possible.Hodgson, 74, has been out of the game since he was released by Crystal Palace at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

He said at the time that he wanted to take a vacation from the game but did not rule out returning at some point in the future.

After Ranieri’s departure, Watford aim to give his successor the most amount of time possible to integrate with the squad before a key Premier League trip to fellow strugglers Burnley on 5 February.

The Vicarage Road side of the stadium is owned by the Pozzo family, and Hodgson worked for them during his short tenure as manager of Udinese.

Hodgson is the oldest manager in the Premier League, having taken over at Crystal Palace in September 2017 and remaining in the position until his departure.

He took over as manager of the Eagles, who were rooted to the bottom of the Premier League after losing their first four games of the 2017-18 season without scoring a goal. He succeeded Frank de Boer.

Despite losing his first three games in charge, he took Palace to 11th place in the Premier League, and they went on to finish 12th, 14th, and 14th in the next three years.

Why did Watford Fire Claudio Ranieri?

Claudio Ranieri was fired by Watford after only 14 Premier League games in charge, and the Hornets are now on the lookout for a new manager to take over for the remainder of the season.

The Italian coach, who is best known for winning the Premier League with Leicester City, leaves the hornets having collected just seven points during his time in charge, but he will be remembered as the man who ultimately cost Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his job following a 4-1 victory over Manchester United at Vicarage Road in December.

That was possibly the only bright moment of his tenure, which began with a 5-0 loss to Liverpool and ended with a crushing 3-0 defeat to fellow relegation contenders Norwich City in the last game of the season.

The lights went out on Ranieri’s time in the Watford bench during a game that was interrupted due to a power outage on Saturday.

Is this again another wrongful dismissal?

With just 7 points in 14 games, his sacking was looking more imminent that ever.

Claudio Ranieri’s Watford career by numbers:

◉ 14 games

◉ 11 defeats

◉ 2 wins

◎ 17 goals scored

◎ 34 goals conceded

◎ 0 clean sheets

Hodgson will take over from Ranieri, who has failed to turn the team’s fortunes around since taking over in October.

After a 3-0 home loss to fellow strugglers Norwich on Friday, the Hornets slid into the Premier League relegation zone for the first time this season.
