Real Madrid of Spain has been reportedly put on lock after a case of Covid 19 was discovered at Valdebebas on Thursday, 12, March. The Spanish team shares its facilities with the basketball players at Valdebebas and one of the basketball players, Trey Thompkins was tested positive for the virus. In response to this, the management of the club has put the club on lockdown to avoid further spread of the virus within the club and country at large.

Real Madrid announced that the squad was put into quarantine following the positive status of a member of the basketball team, Trey Thompkins, not long after, La Liga announced that games staged to be played behind closed doors has been postponed. According to La Liga, one of the reasons why all games have been postponed is as a result of the virus hitting the capital city of Spain, Madrid.

Players of the team had arrived the training at about 11 am on Thursday for preparation ahead of their La Liga game against Eibar at Santiago Bernabeu on Friday but were seen leaving the training ground after an hour. According to AS, the players and staff were gathered by the head of Real Madrid services Niko Mihic, who informed those present of the safety steps which they will have to follow, including not coming back in for at least 15 days.

Also, their Champions League clash with Manchester City at Etihad was later postponed without a specific date of when it will be played.

All the trouble started after American basketball player, Trey Thompkins was diagnosed with coronavirus. The fear became compelling because the team shares the same canteen and hydrotherapy amenities with Real Madrid, so there is a high tendency that Zinedine Zidane’s side has been infected with the virus too. In a statement released by Real Madrid which reads:

“They share facilities at Valedebebas, eating in the same dining room which is why everything’s been locked down and they’ve all been quarantined,” a Real Madrid source toldGoal.

“(Staff) are a bit worried. But everyone is following the suggestions and hoping it’s going to be alright.

“It will probably be more than one case because if Thompkins is infected then obviously he’s been in the same locker room and sweating and everything with everyone else, and not just his team-mates but all the basketball coaches. It would be unlikely that it’s just him.”

The players have been given individual training plans that they will work on to keep them fit until Real Madrid is reopened and La Liga games continue.
