Bayern Munich’s left-winger, Kingsley Coman played the club’s UEFA Champions League group game against FC Barcelona on Tuesday, September 14 with a breathing issue.
The 25-year-old French football star had to undergo heart surgery during the week to treat the breathing problem.
Coman replaced Leroy Sané in the 82nd minute of the Champions League game between Bayern and Barca that ended 3-0 in favor of the German side on Tuesday.
Before the Champions League game, Kingsley Coman reportedly complained of shortness of breathing. His complaint forced him to undergo a medical examination.
After the examination, it was discovered that the French international was battling a heart arrhythmia – an irregular heartbeat. The health condition had to be corrected through minor heart surgery.
Two days after the Champions League game against Barcelona, the French winger who started his professional football career at Paris Saint Germain went to an unnamed hospital for his heart to be operated upon.
This means that Kingsley Coman would not be available for the German Bundesliga Liga match between Bayern and VfL Bochum because he had to be allowed to recover. The match will kick off at 14:30 on Saturday, September 18, 2021.
It might not also be available for the Bayern Munich league game against Furth on September 24 and the club’s UEFA Champions League group game against Dynamo Kyiv.
Ahead of the Bayern Munich league game against Bochum, Coman’s club coach, Julian Nagelsmann confirmed that the minor heart surgery went successfully.
He revealed that there were no complications from the surgery except a minor wound from the stitches he got during the surgery. Hence, Coman might return to full training within two weeks.
“He had a slightly irregular heartbeat, a minor heart irregularity. We did a long-term ECG and carried out this operation”, the coach said.
“He’s doing very well and he has little wound pain. Once the wound is healed then he will be able to start with rehab training and it won’t be more than 10 days to two weeks before he’s back in full training.”
Kingsley Coman joined Bayern Munich permanently after two years loan from Juventus on July 1, 2017, for a transfer fee worth €21 million.
Since then, the 25-year-old winger has scored 41 goals and provided 50 assists in 204 games in all competitions. He has won several titles with the German club including a Champions League title, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and 6 Bundesliga titles.
Coman has less than two seasons left on his contract with Bayern Munich. The contract will expire on June 30, 2023.
