One of the high-flyers in the Italian top division league is Parma Calcio 1913, formerly known as Parma Associazione Calcio. The Italian professional football club is based in Parma, Emilia-Romagna, northeastern part of the country.

Parma was formed in July 1913 as Verdi Football Club and the club changed its name in December. The club has four nicknames, which are I Crociati (The Crusaders), I Gialloblu (The Yellow and Blues), I Ducali (The Duchy Men) and Gli Emiliani (The Emilians).

Between 1992 and 2002, Parma has clinched eight titles in their history. The club has also lifted three Coppa Italia, one Supercoppa Italiana, two UEFA Cups, one European Super Cup, and one UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup. Parma also finished runners-up in the 1996–97 season.

The club began to experience financial troubles in 2003 when the former owner defrauded millions which resulted in the club having to go into controlled administration until January 2007. The club was demoted to Serie D in 2015 after it was refounded after being declared bankrupt. Parma, however, secured a record three straight promotions back to Serie A in 2018.

Since 1923, Parma has played their home games at the Stadio Ennio Tardini, often referred to as simply Il Tardini. The stadium can contain 27,906 spectators. The club is owned by Nuovo Inizio Srl and the president is Pietro Pizzarotti. Parma is being managed by an Italian football coach, Roberto D’Aversa.

Parma’s biggest rivals are Reggiana and the derby match between the two clubs is called “Derby dell’ Enza”. Parma also contests the Derby d’Emilia with Bologna. Parma and Bologna are Emilia-Romagna’s two most decorated clubs, having won the region’s only domestic titles.

Juventus are also rivals largely down to their past matches. This includes Parma’s 1995 UEFA Cup victory, its first and third Coppa Italia triumphs, Supercoppa Italiana defeats in 1995 and 2002, and its 1995 domestic cup final defeat to The Old Lady.

The highest-paid player in Parma is striker Roberto Inglese, who is on loan from Napoli. The Italian forward pockets €50,000 per-week.

The second-highest paid player in Parma is former Manchester United right-back Matteo Darmian. The Italian defender earns  €38,500 weekly. Thethird player that earns big at the club is former Arsenal winger Gervinho. The Ivory Coast international pockets €35,500 per-week.
