Christian Eriksen returned to the training ground of Inter Milan on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, for the first time since he survived a cardiac arrest 7 weeks ago and the club gave him a very warm welcome.
Recall that Eriksen made headlines when he suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland on June 12, 2021. It took the help of Danish captain, Simon Kjær and the medical team at the stadium who were quick to give him CPR for him to survive.
Afterward, he was taken to the hospital for further treatment and subsequently underwent a surgical procedure through which a defibrillator was installed in him.
Since then, he has been out of football and still being watched over by medical doctors even though he looks fit based on the visuals of him that have gone public so far.
His return to Inter Milan’s Suning Training Centre on Wednesday was a pleasant surprise to many because of the speculations surrounding his use of a heart-starting device (defibrillator) which is against Italian Serie A regulations.
Futballnews has recently reported that Christian Eriksen might not be able to play for Inter Milan again until the defibrillator is removed. And the process that might lead to that could last for over 6 months.
Hence, his return to Inter Milan was not for him to commence training but just a courtesy visit to his club’s teammates, coaches, staff, and directors.
In the videos the club shared via Instagram, Christian Eriksen could be seen greeting players and staff of the club and taking pictures with them.
The club also shared pictures the 29-year-old Belgian attacking midfielder took with his teammates and the ones he took alone to celebrate his return to the club.
Afterward, Eriksen joined the players and the coaching crew to take a group picture in which he was seen holding an Inter Milan jersey with his name and shirt number 24 embroidered on it.
When Eriksen had completed his tour of the club’s training center, Inter Milan took to their official website to announce that the player would return to Denmark to continue with his recovery process.
In the statement, the Italian club confirmed that Eriksen is in “excellent mental and physical shape” despite not playing football or being involved in a rigorous exercise in the past seven weeks.
“Eriksen is doing well and is in excellent physical and mental shape”, Inter Milan said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
“He will now follow the recovery program put forward by Danish doctors in Copenhagen, who will also co-ordinate the clinical follow-up.
“The Inter medical staff will naturally be kept informed and up-to-date throughout the process.”
Christian Eriksen who joined Inter Milan on January 28, 2020, from Tottenham Hotspur for a transfer fee worth €27 million still has three seasons left on his contract with the Italian side.
Since the 29-year-old Danish attacking midfielder joined the Italian side in 2020, he has played 60 games in which he scored 8 goals and provided four assists. His effort helped the club to win the Italian Serie A title in the 2020-2021 season.
