Manchester City have reportedly offered Aston Villa a whopping £100 million to acquire the services of the club’s captain, Jack Grealish.
The 25-year-old left-winger who can also play in the midfield has proven to be one of the brightest stars in the Premier League and the coach of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola sees him as a perfect fit for his plans ahead of the 2021-2022 season.
Like many other England internationals who represented the country in Euro 2020 which ended on July 11, 2021, Jack Grealish is yet to commence his pre-season training with Aston Villa.
If Aston Villa allow the £100 million bid on the Englishman to tempt them, the football star might not return to Villa Park this summer. Recall that Jack Grealish made 5 appearances in Euro 2020 in which he provided 2 assists.
The versatile football star has been at the club all his career except between September 2013 and May 2014 when he went on a season-long loan at Notts County.
Between 2013 and 2021, Grealish has scored 43 goals and provided 32 assists in 213 appearances in all competitions for Villa. He made his debut for the Three Lions of England on September 8, 2020, after he decided to snub his ancestral country, the Republic of Ireland.
Since then, he has established himself as one of the most prominent stars in coach Gareth Southgate’s squad and he could be such a figure in any club he finds himself.
If Aston Villa agree to sell Jack Grealish to Manchester City for £100 million, he would become the most expensive English transfer in the history of football.
No transfer transaction between an English club and another English club has ever been worth that much. Also, no English player has ever be bought for £100 million in the history of the game.
Currently, Paul Pogba is the most expensive Premier League player after Manchester United paid Juventus £89 million to bring him to the Premier League in 2016.
The 28-year-old French footballer is closely followed by Harry Maguire who joined Manchester United from Leicester City for a transfer fee worth £78 million.
Based on the interest Manchester City have in Jack Grealish, the football star has stronger bargaining power over Aston Villa. This is so because reports in the United Kingdom claimed that the 25-year-old England international was expected to commence contract extension talks with Villa when he resumes his pre-season training.
His contract with Aston Villa will expire on June 30, 2025, which means that he still has at least four seasons left in his current contract with Villa.
