The head coach of Germany, Joachim Low is not worried about the form of his team ahead of the clash between the team and England at Wembley Stadium in London.
Germany and England are scheduled to play against each other in the round of 16 at 17:00 on June 29, 2021. The match will be played at the Wembley Stadium which could be an advantage to the Three Lions of England who will be playing in front of their home fans.
England will be going into the game with their heads high because they finished the group stage as Group D leaders. They recorded two wins and a draw before the group stage ended.
However, Gareth Southgate’s led team was criticized for being a very low-scoring side. For instance, in their three group games, they managed to score just two goals, thanks to Raheem Sterling.
The good part of the present England set-up is that as the players don’t score many goals, they don’t concede. They are one of the few teams in the ongoing Euro 2020 that have not conceded a goal.
On the other hand, Germany have been struggling since the tournament started. As they have the potential to score many goals, they concede a lot of goals.
In the group stage, they managed to win only one game in three games. France defeated them and struggled to draw 2-2 with Hungary last night, June 23, 2021.
It was so tough for Germany that they had to wait until the last 6 minutes of the game before they could guarantee themselves a place in the round of 16, thanks to late Leon Goretzka’s equalizer against Hungary on Wednesday.
Despite such a struggle with a lowly rated Hungary, coach Joachim Low believes that the round of 16 game between Germany and England is different from the one against Hungary.
“I’m not worried, it’s a different match,” Joachim Low said. “Hungary parked the bus, with everyone behind the ball, entered every duel, against England it will be a different match.
“They are playing at home, they want to attack, it’s going to be an open match, more open than it was tonight. We need to improve on things, we are aware of that, and need to take care and be careful, especially at set-pieces.
“We cannot repeat the same mistakes. We need to do things better here, but ahead of the match against England, we’re looking forward to it.
“It’s great news to play in London at Wembley against England. The group stage is over and now we have to focus. It’s in or out now. Our performance so far hasn’t been too good, but if we show what we can, as we did against Portugal for long spells, we can be a strong opponent, and if we don’t do that we can get into difficulties.”
Joachim Low will step down as Germany’s head coach after the Euro 2020. Recall that few months before the commencement of the European Championship, the 61-year-old German tactician announced that his 15-year reign would end after the Championship.
In his 15-year in charge of the team, he managed to finish third in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, runner-up in UEFA European Championship in 2008, and won the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Since Joachim Low announced his resignation from the team over two months ago, the football authorities in Germany are yet to appoint his successor. Reports in Germany claimed that the former coach of Bayern Munich, Hansi Flick might be his replacement after the European Championship.
UEFA barred Munich’s Allianz Arena from lighting up in rainbow colors for Germany’s match against Hungary.
