Harry Kane and Tottenham Hotspur might have it tough in the transfer market as the chairman of the club, Daniel Levy has warned that the club’s interest would be prioritized in the transfer market this summer.

Harry Kane has openly told Tottenham Hotspur that he wants to leave the club despite having up to three seasons left on his contract with the London club where he has been since he started his professional football career.

The 28-year-old England and Tottenham captain wants to leave Spurs in search of trophies which the club has not been able to give him despite being a Premier League highest goalscorer for two different seasons.

Reports in the United Kingdom claimed that Chelsea and Manchester City are considering a move for the striker who currently worths over 100 million pounds in the transfer market.

However, it is looking difficult that a club would seal a deal with Tottenham over Harry Kane at such a price this summer and it is also looking difficult that Tottenham would be willing to accept anything lower than £100 million from his suitors.

Recall that Spurs like every other major club in the Premier League are battling with a high accumulation of debt due to the impact of the dreaded coronavirus pandemic.

The case of Spurs is worsened due to their one billion pound stadium which has not generated enough revenue for the club despite the amount of investment in it.

Based on the club’s high amount of debt, the club’s chairman admitted that the club would be active in the transfer market but noted that the club would not have to spend so much on players this summer.

In a statement, the club’s chairman released to Tottenham Hotspur’s official website, Levy who appointed Fabio Paratici, the former football officer of Juventus as the club’s managing director of football, said the new appointee would determine the players that would be retained and released ahead of the 2021-2022 season.

“I am never going to talk about any specific player in public,” Levy said.

“All I will say is his frustrations in not winning are shared by me and all the fans and players. We all want to win.

“One of the items that Fabio will have to deal with when he comes in is which players are going to be retained, which will be asked to look for other clubs.

“There is a market out there. What we want and what other clubs want is not always possible to achieve. We will do whatever is right for the club.”

On the financial situation at the club, Levy added: “We have to be realistic where we are”.

“We are still in a pandemic, the consequences for this club have been more severe than any other club in the Premier League over £200m of lost revenue. The revenue we cannot recover.

“The timing of our new stadium could not have been worse. We have the most expensive stadium in Europe, the highest level of debt of any club in Europe.

“Fortunately for us it is long-term and we are in a good financial position in that sense. We have not been getting the revenues we had hoped for from our stadium and as a consequence, we have to be careful over the coming years and be prudent.

“Our due must the club even though we want to win. We will spend but we are a self-sustaining club, we have to be sensible.

“Sometimes the fans think we should be spending but there have been circumstances when the coach hasn’t wanted to spend on a player. We will make investments in the squad.”

Harry Kane is currently on international duty with England in the ongoing Euro 2020. At the time of publishing this report, Kane was leading England to play against Croatia in the tournament.
