Bernardo Silva has shut down rumors on social media that he is considering leaving the club due to the recent UEFA ban. This comes after Friday’s news that Manchester City would be banned from participating in European competitions for the next two seasons due to breaches of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules. The club’s chief executive is also said to have called an emergency meeting with players.

Pep Guardiola’s side has said they will appeal the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). However, the Premier League is said to be waiting on the outcome of the appeal before formally launching an investigation of their own.

In an interview reportedly done a week ago, Bernardo Silva was quoted to have said he is open to returning to his boyhood club Benfica. The video has since gone viral causing the midfielder to come out with his own reaction. The interview was falsely reported to have been done after the news of the ban but the 25-year-old insisted it was done prior to the news.

Silva played just one game for Benfica’s senior team before moving to Monaco. The Portuguese star made quite an impression for the French giants with his sensational form. This attracted Manchester City to the midfielder who moved to Eithad in the summer of 2017. City supporters are delighted to hear that the midfielder’s exit is just mere rumors and he’s committed to the club. Over the last couple of years, Silva has been established as one of the top midfielders in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Manchester City was set to face West Ham at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, February 16 but the game has been rescheduled to Wednesday, February 19. It is not clear if the rescheduling has to do with the recent ban.

But fans worldwide anticipate the match and wonder if the squad’s performance will be affected. Manchester City could also possibly be stripped of its Premier League title won back in 2014. The investigation will reportedly look into the club between 2012 to 2016 period.
