Florentino Perez will remain the president of Spanish La Liga giants, Real Madrid, for another 4 years as he emerged the winner of the club’s presidential election which took place last week.
The club announced earlier today, April 13, that the 74-year-old football administrator won the election for the 5th successive time and 6th overall. Based on his re-election, Perez will head Real Madrid until 2025.
During the election, Perez stood unopposed, hence, the buzz about the election was not as loud as that of FC Barcelona which produced Joan Laporta last month.
Since Florentino Perez became the president of the club in 2000, Real Madrid have won 26 major titles including 5 European Cups, 5 Club World Cups, 4 European Super Cups, 5 La Liga titles, 2 King’s Cups, and 5 Spanish Super Cups.
Real Madrid will face Liverpool without Sergio Ramos again due to COVID-19
Real Madrid will face Liverpool in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final round on Wednesday, April 14, at 20:00 without the club’s captain Sergio Ramos. The club confirmed earlier today that the Spanish defender has contracted the dreaded coronavirus.
Recall that Sergio Ramos was absent in the first leg of the tie due to injury issues. Despite his absence, Real Madrid went on to beat Liverpool 3-1 in the home game.
The club would be looking forward to finishing off the tie by either beating or drawing with Liverpool on Wednesday. Once that happens, the Spanish giants will scale through to the semi-final of the competition.
A statement on the official site of the club read: “Real Madrid CF announces that our player Sergio Ramos has given a positive result in the last COVID-19 test that has been carried out.”
Sergio Ramos has been struggling at Real Madrid this season. Before he sustained an injury, he has been striving to extend his contract at the Spanish club. Unfortunately for the veteran defender, Real Madrid are not willing to offer him the kind of contract he wants.
Hence, the Spain international might leave the Spanish giants for free this summer if the club fails to extend its stay at the club.
So far this season, he has played 20 times in all competitions for Real Madrid in which he scored 4 goals and provided 1 assist.
