The Premier League has recently confirmed that the 2021-2022 season will commence on August 14, 2021, five weeks after the conclusion of the delayed Euros 2020.

The agreed date for the start of the 2021-2022 season will automatically return the Premier League to a more familiar calendar after the coronavirus pandemic disrupted the start date for the 2020-2021 season.

Recall that the start of the ongoing season had to be moved to September 12, 2020, because the coronavirus pandemic put the season on hold for three months. The coronavirus-induced break which started in mid-March 2020 lasted until early June in the same year. Hence, the remaining games in the 2019-2020 season had to be completed between June and July 2020.

Due to the disruption, the remaining game of the season had to be played in a condensed format which saw teams play new games every two to three days.

The season was finally completed behind closed doors and the Premier League allowed the clubs to rest their players for two weeks before the preparation of the 2020-2021 season commenced in September.

Just like the last part of the 2019-2020 season, the ongoing season is being played in a condensed format in which teams are made to play a lot of games within a short period. Such a strategy is being used so that the league could return to a more regular football calendar.

If the 2021-2022 season starts on August 14 as planned, the Premier League clubs could see a gradual return to a more regular schedule which could see the teams play lesser games per period.

Based on the announcement of the Premier League, the forthcoming season will run for about 9 months. That is, if it kicks-off on August 14, 2021, it would end on 22 May 2022.

According to the Premier League, the 2021-2022 Premier League season would follow the regular tradition in which the last fixtures of the season would kick off simultaneously.
