The manager of Tottenham Hotspur, Jose Mourinho says he needs more time to make the club play in unity, adding that the selfishness of players in football is killing the game.

Tottenham Hotspur returned to winning ways on Sunday against Aston Villa, three days after the club crashed out of the Europa League in the round of 16 courtesy of Dinamo Zagreb.

After Tottenham crashed out of the European competition, Jose Mourinho made comments that suggested that some of the players at the club were not listening to him. He also made comments that suggested that some of the players are not giving their all to the club.

Also, Tottenham Hotspur’s second-choice goalkeeper, Joe Hart, accidentally mocked the club via Instagram after they crashed out of the Europa League. He however came out to apologize for the Instagram post, noting that it was a mistake on the part of the handlers of his Instagram post.

More so, after the defeat to Zagreb, Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris, revealed to the press that there was no unity in the club’s dressing room. This goes a long way to confirm the reason behind the reaction of Joe Hart to the defeat of Tottenham on Thursday.

But the club was able to move on after the heartbreaking result and the reaction that came afterward. Unfortunately for Aston Villa, they became the club that Tottenham vented their disappointment on.

After Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa, the manager of Spurs, Jose Mourinho says footballers’ interest has made developing team’s feeling difficult.

Jose Mourinho said: “Football nowadays is not easy about that. Selfishness is around. Individual interests are around. Agents are around. The connections between agents and the press are around.

“Instead of developing a feeling of team, a feeling of empathy, a feeling of you do it for me and I do it for you, a feeling that I win if I play 90 minutes, I win if I am in the stands…

“This is something that you need time to develop in a group because society and the psychological profile of younger people is not an easy one…

“I was not proud last Thursday. I want to be always proud of them in defeat. So, for the moment, rather than thinking about the result of the position that we are going to end or whether we are going to win or lose the final, we need to develop this spirit that we need.

“But I cannot do it alone. I have to do it with my club, with the players in my dressing room. But tonight I am really, really happy with what they did.

“Again, the challenge is that this soul, we must have it every match.”

The win over Aston Villa on Sunday has pushed Tottenham to the 6th spot on the league table with 48 points in 29 games after 14 wins, 6 draws, and 9 defeats. While Aston Villa are occupying the 10th spot with 41 points in 28 games.
