Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has insisted that his brother, Andrew is not his spokesperson, insisting that people should not rely on third-party information about him.
Recently, Andrew got involved in the affairs of Victor Osimhen when he appeared in an interview with Radio Marte. During the interview, Osimhen’s brother disclosed that the footballer is struggling at the Italian Serie A club because the team has not been playing to the striker’s advantage.
He stressed that for the 22-year-old Nigerian striker to be more effective at Napoli, the Serie A side has to play more as a team and more for Osimhen.
In reaction to Andrew’s criticism of Napoli, Victor Osimhen insisted that his brother’s opinion did not represent his opinion, insisting that he loves Napoli, his teammates, and his coach, Genarro Gattuso.
“I wish to make it clear that asking for a football-related opinion to a relative of mine is not the same as asking me directly,” Osimhen said.
“I love Napoli, the club, my coach, and my team. I especially love my teammates and I hope to continue growing and improving to help them even more.
“This is my official opinion, and I ask you to respect it…no one is my spokesperson or whatsoever.”
Victor Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille on September 1, 2020, for a transfer fee worth €70milion. Since he joined the club, the Super Eagles striker has managed to score two goals and provide one assist in 9 league games. He has played 15 games in all competitions for Napoli so far this season.
He has been out of football for weeks because he got injured while on national duties and also contracted the dreaded coronavirus in January. He played in Napoli’s last league game which was against Granada.
The Nigerian striker failed to score in the 2-0 defeat Napoli suffered in the hands of Granada on Thursday, February 18. He is expected to play against Atalanta on Sunday, February 21 in an Italian Serie A game.
Victor Osimhen didn’t bring the new variant of coronavirus to Italy.
Recently, a hospital in Naples, Hospital Federico II, had to issue a statement to debunk the speculation that Victor Osimhen brought a new coronavirus variant to Italy.
The Nigerian striker tested positive for Coronavirus in January after returning to Italy from Nigeria. After he recovered from the virus, a media outlet in Italy reported that an Africa player brought a new variant of the virus to the country. It was then suspected that the player was Victor Osimhen.
But a statement from Hospital Federico II where Osimhen tested positive for coronavirus in January read: “A professional returning from a trip to Africa tested positive for COVID19 and thanks to the collaboration between the laboratories of Federico II and the Hospital Pascale, Giuseppe Portella of Federico II identified a highly suspicious case and in a very short time the team of Nicola Normanno discovered a COVID variant never detected in Italy so far.
“We categorically deny the news that Napoli player Victor Osimhen is the professional from Africa that would have allowed isolating the variant Covid B.1.525.
“There are no players of SSC Calcio Napoli involved in this. All health data are always strictly processed in full respect of the protection of privacy.”
