Spain’s politician and Barcelona president aspirant, Joan Laporta has restated his commitment to making everything possible to convince Lionel Messi to stay at Camp Nou

Recall that the Spaniard slammed the potential admirer –Paris Saint Germain- of the Argentine ace, last month, on disrespecting the transfer saga between both clubs. He intended to file a lawsuit as regards the inconsistencies of the French side.

As the Barcelona president elections are around the corner, the six-time Ballon D’or winner’s future has called for attention in the club as his contract expires at the end of the season PSG-who upended the Catalan giants in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of sixteen,4-1- and Manchester City are lining up for the player.

Laporta, who is one of the candidates and believed to assume Barca’s top seat on March 7 said Messi needs to be given a plan that will see the Spanish side win the biggest laurels again, in extending his contract.

“I will do everything possible for Messi to stay” he vowed.
He said Messi needs to be supported with affection and deserved to be given preferences that exclude finance.

“Messi should be valued with the affection he deserved and with a suitable financial package, but it’s not about money. He needs a winning sporting proposal, Leo wants to win again with Barcelona.” He added

“I know him well, I have a good personal relationship with him. He is not someone that is here for the money. He will need a competitive sporting offer because he’s a winner.”

City and PSG remain the most credible suitors for him if he is to leave Barca at the end of the season, with a long-term aim to eventually finish his career in Major League Soccer(MLS) in the United States.
