Erling Braut Haaland could make Chelsea football club break the bank during the 2021 summer transfer window. The Premier League club has made the 20-year-old Borussia Dortmund striker a top transfer target.
Haaland’s incredible form since he joined German Bundesliga side, Dortmund, from Red Bull Salzburg of Austria for €20 million on January 1, 2020, has won him the Golden Boy award. This means that he has been rated as the biggest prospect in world football.
With this at the back of the minds of most major clubs across Europe, a deal with the 20-year-old Norway international would make a club almost unstoppable in the nearest future. Hence, Spanish La Liga giants, Real Madrid, have been monitoring Erling Braut Haaland’s progress and are already looking for an opportunity to strike a deal.
Amid the interest from Madrid, reports claimed that Chelsea’s director Marina Granovskaia has already made Erling Braut Haaland the London club’s top target and the deal would be made official in the 2021 summer transfer window.
For that to happen, the club is said to be set to break the club’s transfer record which is €80 million which was the amount Chelsea paid to bring Kepa and Kai Havertz to the club.
But from all indications, if Chelsea initiate the deal in the summer as it is being speculated, Borussia Dortmund might ask for a premium price from Chelsea before they can allow their talisman to go.
The German Bundesliga club can only do that if Chelsea can not wait until 2022 to battle for Haaland’s signature. In 2022, clubs are free to attempt to sign the striker by paying his €75 million release clause. Any club that doesn’t want to wait for such a competitive scenario, might have to pay more than double the money for the Norwegian.
A club like Chelsea that spent over €220 million during the 2020 summer transfer window might likely want to go all the way to bring Erling Braut Haaland to Chelsea no matter the amount.
On Monday, the club’s fans on social media engaged in an online campaign to lure Chelsea to pay any amount to bring the striker to the club before the end of the 2021 summer transfer window. Despite the coronavirus pandemic that affected the revenue of clubs, Chelsea look good enough to seal the deal next summer.
However, the bad news is that Borussia Dortmund are not ready to sell a player that has scored a total of 35 goals and provided 6 assists in 35 appearances for the club just within a year of playing with them.

But with the right price on the table and the influence of Erling Braut Haaland’s super-agent, Mino Raiola, the 20-year-old striker could leave Borussia Dortmund at any point in his fast-growing football career.
