Mikel Arteta admits that Arsenal will be in “big trouble” if things don’t turn around

The manager of the embattled Arsenal football club, Mikel Arteta has admitted that the London club would be in “big trouble” if things don’t turn around.

The embattled coach who just got kicked out of the Carabao Cup by Manchester City after a 4-1 defeat on Tuesday, December 22, said the December’s fixtures of the club will determine the club’s fortune in this season.

Arsenal was having a smooth run in the Carabao Cup where they knocked out Leicester City in the third round of the competition and knocked out Liverpool in the round of 16. Unfortunately for the Gunners, the club’s poor form in the league followed Mikel Arteta into the EFL Cup and ended their journey in the competition.

The woes in the EFL Cup is not as worrying as that of the Premier League where the club is now on the verge of crashing out of the prestigious league competition.

So far this season, Arsenal have suffered massive 8 defeats in 14 league games, and they have enjoyed just 4 wins and 2 draws. This poor run has left Arsenal in the 15th spot with just 14 points.

Mikel Arteta who would have loved to finish in the top four to play in the UEFA Champions League next season is battling not to lose the remaining 4 points which differentiate the club from the relegation-threatened 18th placed Fulham.

Arsenal will hope to redeem themselves when they face Chelsea on boxing day (December 26), and Brighton on December 29. If the London club fails to win these league games, the club will be swimming in the relegation zone before January.

“We have to turn it around, there is no question,” Mikel Arteta told Sky Sports. “If we don’t, we are in big trouble, so this is the moment that is going to decide our season.

“We do [have the tools to turn things around] because I see how much the players try and what they are trying to do, but at the moment a lot of strange things are happening in every game and that makes things difficult.”

As it stands, among all the football managers coaching top clubs, Mikel Arteta is the most likely coach that might get fired before January 2021. However, victory over Chelsea and Brighton could give him a lifeline to stay on as Arsenal coach a little longer.

The only aspect of the 2020-2021 season Mikel Arteta has gotten right is in the Europa League where he effortlessly qualified the club to the next round of the competition without dropping a point.
