Leicester City striker, Jamie Vardy says the Foxes deserved to beat Tottenham Hotspurs describing the win as a well-deserved one, which is a good Christmas present for them.
The win moved the Foxes to third on the Premier League table going into the festive games after initially struggling with the absence of some key players, which include Wilfred Ndidi.
Vardy opened the scoring at the Tottenham Stadium in the first half from the penalty spot after Serge Aurier fell Wesley Fofana inside the box from a needless challenge.
The visitors would have got their second from what was a lovely strike from James Maddison’s well-taken finish three minutes after the restart. But a VAR review for offside disallowed it for offside.
Leicester then got the second after Vardy’s header from Marc Albrighton’s excellent cross deflected in off Alderweireld on the hour mark.
The forward who is now a goal behind Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah on the scorers chart wrote on his social media page: “Big win…we deserved that. Merry Christmas Foxes.”
Leicester tamed Kane and Son
The Foxes showed that they can annihilate the threat of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son, who have been devastating against several teams since the end of last season.
Kane’s only real chance was his freekick which was saved by Kasper Schmeichel in the first half. His partner, Son was also denied at close range, leaving Jose Mourinho frustrated in search of a response, while Leicester went close to a late third through Youri Tielemans.
This was a good response to a below-par outing during their defeat against Everton at the King Power Stadium on Wednesday.
This is another season that Leicester has found themselves in the second spot. It is hoped that they will be able to hold on this time around and secure a top-four spot unlike how they lost hit last season dip in form later in the season.
What is expected to be on the mind of Brendan Rodgers is securing the top four, but he will continue to play that down.
To achieve this, Leicester needs to show as done in the past week high-level consistency. These are paramount going forward for Leicester.
Next on their schedule is a midweek clash against Brighton and this impressive victory over a side threatening a title challenge is expected to spur them on against Graham Potter’s men who have not been getting the results as well.
The Foxes are on 27 point from four game, four points behind Liverpool.
