The manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nuno Espirito Santo, said when the club’s striker, Raul Jimenez developed a fractured skull on November 29, the injury scared everyone at the club.

On the said date, Wolves visited the Emirate Stadium to play their 10th league game of the season. In the first half of the match, Arsenal’s defender David Luiz was in Wolves’ box-eighteen to challenge for the ball. In the process, the Brazilian defender had a head collision with Raul Jimenez.

The match which ended 2-1 in favor of Wolves had to stop for 10 minutes so that the medics in the stadium can attend to both players on the pitch. Afterward, David Luiz came out less affected but the Mexican striker was badly injured to the extent that he was taken to the hospital from the stadium.

On the evening of that day, Wolves confirmed that the striker had to undergo surgery to treat his fractured skull. Since then, the striker has remained out of football and might stay out of the game for a long time.

While Nuno Espirito was addressing the press during a pre-match press conference ahead of the club’s Premier League match against Liverpool scheduled for Sunday at 20:15, the Portuguese tactician said the injury affected everyone at the club because Raul Jimenez has been a person, everyone at the club loved.

“It was very serious and everyone was afraid, everyone was worried”, Nuno Espirito Santo said. “As the days go by and, knowing he is being taken good care of, we have been able to return to a normal situation.

“Now we have to stick together and all our thoughts and prayers go to Raul.

“Everything goes through your mind, you see someone you love in a tough situation. You are worried, first of all, because we all love Raul and he means so much to us, it’s like someone in the family.”

The Wolves’ coach confirmed that the Mexican striker is recovering but failed to confirm when he might return to training and when he might start playing again.

It was reported that Raul Jimenez will be discharged from the hospital next week and would be allowed to rest at home with his family, according to Wolves’ chief medical doctor Matt Perry.

“Now if you ask me personally, put aside my wish and my desire, I want him and I am positive he’s going to come back,” Wolves’ coach said.

“He’s going to come back. What the medical team did was amazing – both teams, Arsenal’s and ours. This is why we trust them and we thank them so much.

“This is what the doctor insists to me – first days are crucial. He was well taken care of on the pitch and during the journey in the ambulance.

“There was not even a moment when he was not being given oxygen so this is what determines the next steps to take. Now he is recovering.

“Now our real concern is that he recovers totally. After that, we will have time.

Wolves are currently sitting on the 7th spot on the league table with 17 points; they have recorded 5 wins, two draws, and three defeats so far this season. A win against Liverpool on Sunday might take the club to at least the 4th spot on the league table.

Wolves’ coach will hope that the club would not have any reason to miss Raul Jimenez for too long this season; he has given the club 4 goals in 10 league games so far.
