Manchester United’s Midfield duo Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay could be back any day now as they start up training in the days to come. The duo are said to be stepping up their recovery from long-term injuries. This may be just what United needs to boost up their center attack and bring glory back to the Club’s name.
Pogba,26, had made increasing improvement as the cast on his right ankle have been taken off and McTominay, 23, has had his knee brace removed. The Scotland international also delighted fans over the weekend when he posted a video of himself walking without crutches. Fans were excited and rush to the lad’s page to wish him a quick recovery.
With Manchester United having a 16-day gap between matches after the visit of Wolves on Saturday, fans are hoping the duo can return in time after their winter break against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on February 17.
It’s high likely, Pogba and McTominay could both recover from injuries they sustained during the festive period. If they will play the week of the Chelsea fixture is yet uncertain. United however are hoping for a return from the duo in their Europa League round-of-32 first leg at Club Brugge on February 20 and host Watford in the league on the 23rd.
“It’s hard to put timescales on long-term injuries,” Solskjaer said. “Because they also need the training before injury free and need to be fitter. Paul’s had his cast off and Scott took his brace off, so at least they can now start doing some work on the grass.”
Nemanja Matic future on returning in time for the League Cup semi-final second leg at Manchester City on Wednesday night with an unspecified injury is still in the wind. Matic, 31, came off at half-time in the 6-0 FA Cup thrashing of Tranmere Rovers on Sunday. Solskjaer is hoping Matic will be assessed and given the green light to return just in time against City, as his side is in need of experienced players in the center.
“Nemanja has got a slight problem,” Solskjaer added. “So he had to come off at half-time and has played loads of football. So hopefully we can get him back on the pitch tomorrow, I haven’t seen him [this morning].”
United beat City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium last month. McTominay and Marcus Rashford both started in what was their standout performance of the season and help lead the United squad to victory. City started with strikers Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus on the bench in the first leg semi-final earlier this month yet scored three in the first-half.
Rashford struck in the second-half to give United a beaken of hope in the return leg. Solskjaer however, admits City are stronger now and more tactful than when they were beaten by United on December 7.
