Argentine football icon Diego Maradona has started to self-isolate at his home in Argentina after one of his bodyguards tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus.

The football icon who is the football manager of an Argentine club, Gimnasia de La Plata, is currently not exhibiting any symptoms of the virus but had to self-isolate because he was in close contact with his bodyguard two days before the bodyguard tested positive for the virus.

According to reports in Argentina, Maradona who is regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time would be subjected to coronavirus screening on Thursday, October 29, 2020, to ascertain whether he is coronavirus free or not.

The coronavirus test result of Maradona’s bodyguard came a few days before the Argentine football icon and former Barcelona’s star clock 60-year-old (Friday, October 30, 2020).

This is not the first time that Maradona has had cause to be scared of contracting the dreaded coronavirus. Earlier in the month, he had to undergo a coronavirus test because he came in contact with one of his players who tested positive for the virus. Luckily for him, his test result returned negative.

Argentine club Gimnasia de La Plata would hope that Maradona would not have to self-isolate for too long because the Argentine league is about to resume in a matter of days. The league has been suspended since March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Argentina has been one of the worst-hit countries in the world as far as the virus is concerned. Between February and the time of publishing this report, the country has recorded 1.12 million coronavirus cases. However, 921,000 people have fully recovered from the virus while 29,730 people have lost their lives due to coronavirus related complications.

Coronavirus can make such a huge impact on people at the age of 60 and above especially when such categories of people have underlying health challenges. Diego Maradona falls in the category of people that should stay very far away from the virus.

Maradona has had to deal with health issues a few years before he retired from football. First, he had to fight obesity until March 2005 when he had to undergo surgery and change of diet just to prevent being obese.

The Argentine football icon has also battled hepatitis until 11 April 2007 after he was released from a hospital in Argentina capital Buenos Aires. Maradona’s most recent medical challenge was a hernia which caused internal bleeding in his stomach. The Argentine football icon had to undergo surgery in January 2019 to treat it.

With all this history of medical challenges, it will be too dangerous for Diego Maradona to test positive for coronavirus.
