A Premier League footballer suspected to be an Arsenal player has been questioned by police following multiple rape allegations.
The man, who is said to be in his 30s, is under investigation for alleged rapes of two women and a sexual offence relating to a third woman.
Police reportedly arrested him at an address in West London in July 2022 on suspicion of rape and he has continued to play for his club since. He was at the police station on Thursday, November 7, 2024, and was interviewed under caution.
A Met Police spokesperson said officers are investigating the footballer following several reports of alleged sexual offences between 2021 and 2023.
‘’A man in his 30s was arrested in July 2022. He has since been interviewed by police on two further occasions while under caution,” the police said.
At the time of filing this report, the investigation remains ongoing and detectives are continuing with in-depth and detailed enquiries.
The man was reportedly arrested after a report of an alleged rape in June 2022 and, while in custody, was further arrested on suspicion of two incidents of rape in April and June 2021.
No further action was taken regarding the incident in June 2021 given relevant legislation had not yet come into effect at the time it is alleged to have occurred.
However, the player was arrested again in February 2023 on a similar offence.
Who could this Premier League Footballer Be?
There are speculations on who the Premier League player under investigation could be. A number of Premier League footballers have been entangled in rape allegations by the police lately. However, as is the tradition, their identities are always kept secret until they are tried.
Based on information from the police and current developments, it is likely to be Ghana international Thomas Partey.
Partey was arrested in 2022 for interrogations after his former girlfriend and Moroccan beauty Sara Bella accused him of rape.
Further reports claim Bella had intentionally wanted to set up the footballer after the latter promised to marry her but failed.
Since then, Partey has been on the radar of the UK police with reports of other sex offences linked to him surfacing.
He has been arrested and questioned multiple times based on the allegations amidst his claims of innocence. Meanwhile, the problem has had little or no impact on his Arsenal career since he has not been convicted.
At the time of filing this report, we have learnt that he has been dropped from the Ghana squad for the November international break.
Ghana have axed the Arsenal midfielder for potential make-or-break Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
Embattled coach Otto Addo refused to disclose why he omitted the 31-year-old, who has scored 13 goals in 49 international appearances.
“My reasons are confidential. I hope he will rejoin us for the next international window in March (World Cup qualifying),” he told reporters.
However, it is believed Otto Addo’s decision is linked to the ongoing police Investigation of the footballer following the rape allegations.
