Incoming Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has revealed his fear as he prepares to take over the reins at Old Trafford.
Manchester United announced Ruben Amorim as new manager a few days after sacking former boss Erik ten Hag following a poor run of results.
Futballnews understands Ruben Amorim will kickstart his reign in the United dugout from November 11, 2024, during the November international break.
He will move in with his coaching staff from Sporting Lisbon for a new beginning with the struggling Premier League and European giants.
Speaking ahead of his imminent move to Old Trafford, Amorim revealed his biggest fear as he prepares to take up the new challenge with United.
According to him, it is not the task of lifting Manchester United off the doldrum of stagnation that is his major concern but how Sporting Lisbon will fare in the aftermath of his exit.
”It is not the task at hand that is a problem, but the season ending and Sporting missing out on their goal of a double league title. My biggest fear is that I could be one of the reasons for something happening at the end of the year,” he said.
“That, more than failing in other situations, is probably my biggest fear,” he added.
Ruben Amorim at Sporting Lisbon
Ruben Amorim joined Sporting Lisbon from Braga in the 2019-20 season. He led the team to their first Primeira Liga title in 19 years, winning the Portuguese Championship on his debut season.
He also added the Taca da Liga (Portuguese league cup) to his collection to cap a brilliant start to his reign at the club.
The following season, he led the club to a second Taça da Liga title and ended their winless streak against Benfica in the Primeira Liga.
In his third season, he continued to accentuate brilliance in the Portuguese top flight, leading the team to challenge for the Primeira Liga and other domestic trophies.
In the 2023-24 campaign, Amorim clinched his second Primeira Liga title with the club and reached the final of the Taca da Liga for the fourth time in a row.
He has won multiple Primeira Liga Manager of the Month Awards and was awarded Manager of the Year in the 2019-20 campaign.
Apart from his glaring success with Sporting, he endeared himself to the heart of the club’s fans with his beautiful and intriguing style of play and formidable setup at the club and will be greatly missed by the fans.
Ruben Amorim leaves Sporting Lisbon top of the Primeira Liga table
Amorim will leave Sporting Lisbon with the team sitting top of the Primeira Liga table. The Lions lead the Primeira Liga title race by three points after garnering a maximum 30 points from 10 games.
Amorim last won the Portuguese top flight with a record 90 points. The Portuguese tactician will hope that his successor will do a great job building on the momentum to lead the team to the Primeira Liga title.
It is understood Manchester United paid an additional £840,000 fee to break a 30-day notice clause that would have still tied him to Sporting Lisbon for a few more games. United are hopeful Amorim could be the next Sir Alex Ferguson of the club, returning to their glory days.
He is regarded as one of of the best young managers in Europe and was in contention for Liverpool and West Ham United jobs in the summer.
