Fenerbache coach Jose Mourinho fell hilariously to the ground after a failed attempt at a knee-slide celebration during the Trabzonspor Super Lig match.

Trabzonspor vs. Fenerbache match recap

It was a thrilling encounter at the Papara Park in the Super Lig between the two sides. Mourinho’s Fenerbache went into the game second on the Super Lig table, but a distant eight points from league leaders Galatasaray, while Trabzonspor were stuck in the middle of the table with 12 points from two wins, six draws, and just a defeat.

Former Manchester United and Brazilian midfielder Dani Fred fired Fenerbache into the lead three minutes before halftime break before the hosts fight back to turn the game on its head with two controversial penalties.

28-year-old DR Congo forward Simon Banza converted the first spot-kick to level the score for the home side.

Four minutes later, Trabzonspor were awarded another penalty, and Banza converted it again spotlessly to complete the comeback for the hosts.

Former Roma and Manchester City forward Edin Dzeko scored 15 minutes from regulation time to peg the hosts to a 2-2 draw.

The game nearly ended with both sides sharing spoils before former Fiorentina midfielder and Morocco international Sofyan Amrabat scored just at the last touch of the ball in stoppage-time to hand Fenerbache a late dramatic 3-2 victory.

He attempted a kneeslide to celebrate the goal but failed hilariously. In footage that we have shared in this story, Mourinho had his face planted on the grass as he failed to effectively execute the knee-slide. He was then mobbed by his staff, who also celebrated the late winner.

Meanwhile, the win saw Fenerbache continue chasing Galatasaray at the top of the Super Lig table.

They are second on the table with 23 points from 10 games, five points behind Galatasaray.

Jose Mourinho blasts Turkey officiating system after the match

Meanwhile, Mourinho was unimpressed with the officiating in the match. He lambasted the VAR for reckless decisions that nearly cost his side the game.

In his post-match interview with Bein Sports, the 61-year-old voiced his displeasure at many of the decisions in the match, including the entire officiating system in Turkey, even stating he would not have taken the Fenerbahce job if he was aware of the standard of refereeing.

”The man of the match was Atilla Karaoglan,’ claimed Jose Mourinho. – The invisible man. Refereeing on the field is just childish. Atilla Karaoglan is the man of the match.

“We don’t want to see him in our matches again. We don’t want him as a VAR either. We don’t want him on the field either. Before I came here, I was told a lot of things, and I didn’t believe it. It was even worse.”

On the system in Turkey, he said,

”We faced a good team, and they fought well, but we are playing against the system,” he continued.

”I speak on behalf of all Fenerbahce fans when I say this. That’s why we had a joyful celebration. We won against very, very strong people. We will not give up. I am angry with the Fenerbahce managers who brought me here; they told me half of this.

”If they told me the whole thing, I would not come to Fenerbahce. They told me half of the story before I came. If they told me the whole thing, I would not come if I knew.”

Mourinho’s next match with Fenerbache is a Europa League clash away to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar on Thursday, November 7, 2024.

They will host Sivasspor in their next match in the Super Lig at the weekend before the November international break.
