A French court has ruled in favour of Kylian Mbappe, ordering Paris Saint-Germain to pay the Real Madrid star €55 million in unpaid wages.
The dispute stems from Mbappe’s departure from PSG to Real Madrid in June 2024, with PSG claiming a “gentleman’s agreement” was made to waive a €30 million loyalty bonus and a €25 million signing-on fee.
However, Mbappe, who was alleged of rape insisted that he is owed unpaid salary for the final three months at PSG, as well as various performance bonuses.
Despite recommendations to pursue mediation, Mbappe’s representatives have rejected this option and are adamant in their demand for the full amount.
Legal experts believe that PSG will struggle to prove a waiver and that the case is leaning in Mbappe’s favour.
Court Orders PSG To Pay Mbappe His Owed Salary
The LFP confirmed to the Associated Press that the club is obligated to pay Mbappe the portions of his salary that he is seeking.
Despite PSG’s appeal, the French league’s appeals commission sided with Mbappe.
The French club’s initially denied owing anything to their former player, claiming Mbappé waived his right to the payments, and citing a verbal agreement.
However, they are now required to pay the Real Madrid star a significant amount of €55 million.
The Ligue de Football Professionnel’s (LFP) told the Associated Press: “The club (PSG) must pay him the parts of his salary he is claiming.”
The decision cannot be appealed further but can be brought before the executive committee of the FFF.
The LFP added: “This decision is not subject to (further) appeal, but can be raised before the executive committee of the FFF (French soccer Federation).”
The French Football Federation’s (FFF) executive committee may still review the decision, but for now, PSG must pay Mbappe the owed salary and bonuses.
PSG Disobey Court Ruling, Refuses To Pay €55 M To Mbappe
According to latest report, Paris Saint-Germain have again refused to pay Kylian Mbappe €55 million in unpaid wages and will take the matter to court.
A PSG spokesman has told RMC Sport that the French Powerhouse will contest the ruling through the courts, having previously insisted they do not owe their former striker anything.
PSG’s spokesman said: “Now that the appeals committee has confirmed the opinion of the legal committee, PSG has decided to take the case to the appropriate courts, while continuing to try to find an amicable solution with the player.”
The spokesman emphasized that Mbappe made public and private commitments to honor the agreement, and PSG hopes to have their word respected.
He added: “In law and in fact, the player has made clear and repeated public and private commitments that the club is simply asking him to honour and respect in view of the unprecedented advantages he has enjoyed from the Club for 7 years in Paris.”
“The club hopes that its word will be respected, knowing that if the player unfortunately decides to pursue this dispute, the club will be obliged to have it judged by the competent courts and to have the prejudice it has suffered and continues to suffer as a result of the incomprehensible position of its former player recognised.”
“It is a question of good faith, honesty, upholding values and respect for the institution of Paris and its supporters.”
PSG’s determination to adhere to the court decision and compensate the French star for his unpaid salary suggests that the legal dispute may drag on for a considerable period.
Mbappe has seamlessly integrated into Real Madrid, scoring eight goals and providing two assists in 13 games across all competitions while adjusting to his new team.
