Former Arsenal star Jay Emmanuel Thomas has denied getting involved in the importation of class B drugs.
This happened after he showed up in court for an accusation related to the smuggling of cannabis through Stansted airport.
The 33-year-old free agent who last played for Greenock Morton in the Scottish Championship got sacked by the club after he was arrested and charged with a case of drug smuggling.
Emmanuel Thomas was arrested by the National Crime Agency in September 2024 and was questioned aggressively before he was put in the custody of the NCA.
Emmanuel Thomas’s arrest came after the NCA held 600,000 class B drugs.
Border Force officers discovered 60 kg of drugs in two suitcases, which arrived at Stansted Airport on a flight from Thailand.
The former Arsenal star, who lives on Cardwell Road in Gourock, appeared in front of the Chelmsford Crown Court via a video link.
After lengthy questioning from the prosecutor, he pleaded not guilty to the importation of class B drugs.
Emmanuel Thomas was accused together with his co-defendant in the person of Rosie Rowland and Yasmin Piotrowska from July 1, 2024, to September 2, 2024.
The 28-year-old Rowland and his 33-year-old partner Piotrowska pleaded not guilty to the alleged importation of class B drugs.
As further investigation goes on, a trial will be held for those three individuals involved in the case, and further case management will happen on January 6, 2025.
The judge, Christopher Morgan, in charge of the case, has remanded the player in custody, and the two other accused have been released on bail.
