English football legend David Beckham has hailed Liverpool ace Trent Alexander-Arnold for playing football like him.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, David Beckham opened up on his admiration for the Liverpool fullback and stated he sees himself in the way the England international plays.

“I see myself in the way he puts the ball in, what he sees, the long ball he plays. Trent plays balls some players don’t think about and that’s what I love about him.” Beckham said on Ferdinand’s podcast show.

David Beckham’s style of play

Highly regarded for his passing abilities and intelligence, Beckham featured mostly on the right wing during his playing days, which enabled him to whip in wicked crosses to a teammate’s head at will.

The Ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid star wasn’t known for his pace and was rarely seen using tricks to get past an opponent. He focused more on linking up with his fullback and using his passes to break through the opponents’ defense.

His amazing ball-striking ability saw him on set-piece duty in the teams he played for and is regarded as one of the finest free-kick and corner-kick takers the game has ever seen.

He also drew praises for his ability to play several positions in the midfield, as well as the flank, even occasionally playing as a wing-back. Although he excelled a lot better in the midfield, he played either as an attacking midfielder or as a deep-lying playmaker.

His technical abilities, great crosses and ferocious strikes have seen him become one of the defenders with the best numbers, scoring 19 goals and assisting a further 81 goals with Liverpool.

The only criticism the England international faces is his inability to contribute defensively as much as he does in the attack.

How is David Beckham’s style of play similar to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s

While the two don’t necessarily play the same position on the pitch (although Beckham has occasionally featured as a fullback on the pitch), the duo share a lot of similar skill sets in their arsenal.

The pair are both revered for their ball-striking ability and ability to curl a ball into the opponent’s box from the flanks. They are both also known for their great strikes, either from a set-piece or open play, gaining a reputation for being prolific from the former.

The passing range possessed by the duo is another similar attribute they share. Known for their ability to hit passes to the other flank or find a teammate up the field from deep in their own half.

They also share similar creative tendencies, with the duo being regarded for their ability to pick out a pass and teammate from any part of the pitch.
