Benjamin Mendy has claimed that several of his ex-teammates at Manchester City, including the club captain, Kyle Walker, were all present at the sex parties which landed him into problems.

In a statement read to an employment tribunal, Mendy admitted to drinking alcohol, breaking Covid-19 rules, and having “casual relations with women”.

Benjamin Mendy noted that what he indulged in doesn’t excuse his behavior but he feels it is unfair that he was scapegoated by Manchester City.

He stated: “Several Manchester City first-team players, including the club captain, were all present at the parties that I attended and hosted. We all drank alcohol.”

Mendy added: “We all had casual relations with women. We all breached Covid-19 restrictions.

“This does not excuse my behavior, but I feel that it is unfair for Manchester City to single me out in the way that they have.”

Benjamin Mendy Claims He Was Scapegoated Because He Was Accused Of Rape

The defender also added that the disparity between him and his former teammates is that he suffered false accusations of rape and was “publicly humiliated…”

Mendy added that he was ready to discharge his duties at the club like other Manchester City players, who the Premier League champions were aware attended the parties and acted “recklessly”.

Benjamin Mendy, however, posited that he isn’t aware “of Manchester City deducting or suspending the pay of any of the other players even when it was public knowledge that such players had attended the parties.”

The Frenchman shared that he feels he was treated unfairly by the Cityzens indicating that he has done nothing different from what his erstwhile colleagues did.

Who Are The Teammates Mendy Said Parted With Him?

Based on reports, documents revealed that the footballer identified Riyad Mahrez, Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker, John Stones, and Raheem Sterling as those who also partied with him.

Due to his displeasure with the actions of Manchester City, Mendy has opted to sue the English side for €13 million in unpaid wages after he was acquitted in July 2023 of the rape charges leveled against him.

The Cityzens stopped paying Benjamin Mendy’s £500,000-a-month salary following the rape and sexual assault charges heaped on him in August 2021.

According to the Sun, Mendy agreed to a £6 million-a-year deal until 2023, when he signed from AS Monaco for €57.5 million in 2017.

Manchester City continued paying Benjamin Mendy, who gave his address as Madrid, following his first arrest in 2020.

After being charged, the 30-year-old was suspended by the Premier League side alongside the Football Association and he spent four months in custody before being bailed in January 2022.

Benjamin Mendy’s Financial Stance With Manchester City

Moreover, in addition to wages, Mendy’s contract guaranteed him about €1.1 million bonus each time Manchester City qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

Benjamin Mendy was also assured an additional €1 million if he played in more than 60 percent of the English team’s matches, alongside €1.4 million annually to his image rights company.

Mendy, who was cleared of seven rape charges and two sexual assaults after two trials at Chester crown court in January and June 2023, has brought a claim for unauthorized deductions from wages.

Benjamin Mendy made it known that under the terms of his contract, the club had the right to halt his pay only for six weeks.

During the time he was making efforts to clear his name, the former Olympique Marseille man also battled financial challenges, leading to him owing different institutions and being unable to sort many bills.

Mendy informed the tribunal that his former teammates, Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva, borrowed him cash when he had no money on him following his arrest.

Benjamin Mendy Claims Manchester City Are Not Remorseful Over Their Actions

Benjamin Mendy pointed out that Manchester City have never “apologized or even acknowledged” their wrongdoing.

Mendy shared: “At no point have Manchester City apologized or even acknowledged how their actions almost cost me everything.”

“I believe that it is fair and just for me to be paid the wages that I would have earned but for being falsely arrested for crimes that I didn’t commit.”
